For the next week Nicole worked at the grill as much as she could, went on a coffee date with Stefan; which was fun but she could tell he wasn't over Elena & Damon being together at all, and spent the rest of her time with her new found family. They welcomed her with open arms and even had one of their guest rooms ready for her in case she wanted to sleepover or for if she decided to move in. "Uncle Elijah come on I need that so I can change my name." Nicole said annoyed. Elijah kept vamping to different areas of the house so he could read the paper, while she patiently waited for him to stop. "Did you talk to Carol or your father about this sudden decision?" He asked raising an eyebrow. Nicole bit her lip. "No not yet." Elijah finally stopped running, Nicole stuck her tongue out at him and grabbed her application.

Elijah was watching her walk away; smirking. "Well that wasn't childish at all. Nicole you should respect your elders." Nicole laughed at her uncle. "Well Uncle Elijah, I always respect my elders but you shouldn't have antagonized me." Elijah chuckled whilst walking with her to the kitchen. "So why the rush to change your name." Nicole and Elijah sat at the large kitchen table next to each other so Nicole could finish filling out her application. "I just think it's appropriate. I'm not actually a Lockwood so why should I parade around with the name. Besides I'm 18 now and it's my choice."

Nicole honestly just didn't like having a founding family last name. Her whole life it was mandatory for her to attend every single town event because she was the Mayor's daughter. She hated it because in her mind she wasn't their actual daughter. She also hated the Miss Mystic Pageant and Founders Day because she wasn't by birth, a founding family member. She felt as if she were lying to the people of Mystic Falls. She hadn't really opened up to anyone about her feelings towards the town and it's traditions. Community was supposed to be about family and loyalty; not who had the best parties.

Nicole's face suddenly dropped. "What is it Nicole? What's troubling you?" Elijah asked rubbing her back. "I was just thinking that maybe you're right. It is too soon. I've spent more time with you than I have with my own father. He's trying to avoid me." She said looking down. Elijah rubbed her back comfortingly. "I feel like he's afraid I'm gonna hurt him like Ivy did." She said looking at Elijah. Elijah didn't know what to say to her. He knew Niklaus was avoiding her and he knew Nicole was exactly right. He couldn't believe how easily she could pin point what her father was feeling. "Niklaus has never been open to new people. He had a ward named Marcellus when we lived in New Orleans in the early 1900's. He loved that boy. He saw himself in him and I think that was the first time he ever opened up to someone new." He sighed.

Nicole listened intently as Elijah told her more about Klaus & Marcellus' relationship. She needed to give him time to adjust to having a daughter. "Well then, I guess I'll just go home and put this away till a better time." Elijah put his arm around her. "Nicole, this is your home. We are your family. We all care for you and want you here." Nicole had tears brimming in her eyes. "I feel like I'm doing more damage by being here. Everytime I come here he has errands to run or has to go see someone about something. I can't be here if he doesn't want me here." With that Nicole gathered her things and started for the door. Rebekah started coming down the stairs and saw Nicole's face. "Oh Nicole, how... Wait why are you crying?!" Nicole didn't answer, just hugged Elijah, waved to Rebekah and left. As she was getting into her car, her dear father pulled in and parked next to her. "Hello love! Where are you off to?" He asked getting out of his car. Nicole wiped her tears, gave him a glare and sped out of the driveway.
