Klaus is reading a book in the living room when Hayley walks in. "Those werewolves you ordered killed, that's my family." She spat. "Not for long, love. I mean, this so-called family of yours, they haven't done you much good, have they?" Hayley avoids his gaze. "You said it yourself-- they abandoned you and left you on your own. Now it's simply your turn to do the same." Hayley crossed her arms. "Maybe they had their reasons." Klaus closes the book angrily and gets up. "Yes, well, I have reason too, little wolf. If the werewolves are dead, then the vampires have less desire to kill you. I am trying to keep you safe. Not that you appreciate the effort." Hayley narrows her eyes at him. "And as soon as I have this baby, what happens to me then?" Klaus says nothing and looks both guilty and awkward. After a moment, Hayley gulps nervously and begins to speak. "Right... Well, lucky for me, I have a little while before I find out." She smirks bitterly. "And, in the meantime, I will find a way to pay you back for this. As long as I'm in the family, you can't do a damn thing about it." Hayley leaves. Klaus looks uncomfortable as he watches her go.

Nicole bumps into Hayley as she storms off. "Hayley?" Hayley ignores her and keeps walking. Nicole huffs in frustration and walks into the living room and faces her father. "What did you do?" Klaus slams his book again. "Why is everything my fault?" He says looking at Nicole. Nicole puts her hands on her hips. "It usually is! You're always plotting and scheming!" Klaus was taken back by her attitude. "Someone is feisty today...and judgy. What's come over you?" Nicole sighed. "Your behavior Dad! That's what!" He narrowed his eyes questioningly and scoffed. "What have I done that displeases you?!" Nicole tilted her head. "You really need to ask that question?! Well for one; your orders to murder Hayley's family. Second; the killing of the towns representatives and thirdly you making Marcel your bitch." She spat at him with venom in her words.

Klaus grew angry at his daughter and vamp sped about 2 inches from her face. "I did those things to keep us safe here! Here in our home!" Nicole went at him. "Our home?! This is YOUR home! MY home was in Mystic Falls with the Salvatore's, the Gilbert's, Caroline and Tyler! I don't feel at home here! I feel like I'm in a war zone! Always watching my back to make sure a witch or a vampire isn't trying to kill me for what I am!" Klaus' mouth hung open. He had no idea she had become so unhappy. "Why have you not mentioned this before?" Nicole threw her hands in the air in frustration. Tears filled her eyes. "I saw how happy you were being back here. I didn't want to take away the happiness this city brings you."

That was it. Klaus felt his heart break in two. "You kept your misery from me so I could be happy?" Nicole laughed through her tears. "I may not have had a real family growing up but I know how to do whatever it takes to make sure the ones you love are happy." Klaus had tears in his eyes. His eyes searched the ground. He couldn't look her in the eyes. Nicole broke the silence. "Look, I'm gonna head back to Mystic Falls for a few weeks. I miss my friends; I miss Stefan. I need to go back. With or without you." Klaus looked up at her. He could see her mother shining through her. Her independence; her bravery; her tendency to act like she didn't need anyone. "You want Rebekah or Elijah to accompany you?" Nicole shook her head. "No, you need them here. You may not see it Dad, but they know they wronged you. I think the three of you need to make amends." Klaus nodded slightly. "I believe we will in time..."

Nicole saw him drift off; obviously worrying if they'd make amends this time. "Can you give me the key to the mansion when I leave? I would like to stay in my own room while I'm there." Klaus realized she was dead set on returning to Mystic Falls. He nodded in response. "When do you plan on leaving?" He asked. Nicole wiped her tears. "I don't know. Maybe this weekend. I promise I'll be back before my birthday." Klaus' head shot up at that. "Your birthday? September 28th isn't it?" Nicole nodded. "So you'll be gone for 2 weeks?" Nicole tilted her head. "Depends on how much I miss you..." Nicole smirked at him. Klaus returned the smirk and pulled her into a hug. "I love you Dad." Klaus eyes shot open. That was the first time she said it. "I know I never say it but I do; despite your paranoia and killing, I love you." He pulled out of the hug to look at her. "I love you too Angel." He said smiling.
