"Shut the door! Barricade the windows!" I shouted.
It shouldn’t be happening again. I killed it twice and there was no possible reason for it to look for me.
"What the heck was that?! Was that an earthquake?! Aftershock?!" Harry asked anxiously.
"It’s something worse than that. If you want to stay alive, stick with me."
"Tell us what it is!"
"Okay. Alright. It’s a monster and it’s here because of me."
"What are you talking about?!" Clarisse asked.
"So, are you giving us the reason why we don’t need to trust you?!” Harry asked, as he pointed his gun at me.
"Look. I’m joining you because I want to help you get out of this city. Apparently, that monster is still alive and kicking."
"So, what do you want to point out?"
"I’ve killed it before. That’s what I’m trying to say."
"You’re lying! You better tell us the truth, or else, I’ll empty this clip between your eyes!"
"I’m telling the truth, Harry! That monster is unstoppable!"
"Shut up! Both of you! Enough of that!" Clarisse suddenly shouted.
There was a minute of silence. Eventually, Harry spoke afterwards.
"So, what now, cop? We’re not yet ready to die here."
Suddenly, a series of loud thuds and blows was heard by the door. The monster was thinking of barging inside.
"Think fast, cop! The door won’t be able to withstand that!", Harry shouted.
"Let us go to the higher floors so I can think clearly", I said.
"Good idea. Come on now. Just don’t nag at each other anymore", Clarisse said.
We searched the whole lobby first for any usable items as weapons. After we got a fire axe from an emergency slot and a revolver from an usher's corpse, we found out that it would take us insufficient time to take the stairs up, so we checked if the elevator was still working.
"I think, it’s stuck. It won't open", I said.
"Check the button", Harry said.
"It’s working. It’s lit and I can hear the elevator operate, but the door is still closed."
"Pry the door with the axe."
Luckily, the door automatically opened itself.
Unfortunately . . .
"Rrrrroooooaaaaarrrrr!!!!!"
"Ahh! There they are again!"
A small group of infected popped out of the elevator!
"Ma'am, stay behind me!" Harry told Clarisse, while he was shooting at the infected.
“Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang . . . !”
"Harry! We can’t use it now! We need to take the stairs!" I shouted.
An infected suddenly bit him on his arm!
"Ahh! Damn it! After you, cop!" Harry moaned in pain.
"Come on, Clarisse!"
I escorted her upstairs, leaving Harry at the lobby. Apparently, another horde of infected chased after us!
"Harry!" Clarisse shouted.
"We need to go now! I’m sorry", I said.
We began to run up the stairwell, as we passed by a number of rooms. Some of them were locked, others were opened. There were a lot of dead bodies, too.
"Here’s the plan: first, we need to get in a room for me to think for the rest", I suggested.
