"You want me to fight in a war?! You're crazy!" I exclaimed in utter shock to the Weird-o while we were training in the gardens at 'school'. His older sister Dawnlight was training with us. The goal for today before he proposed such a preposterous idea was for me to be able to throw a fireball between the two without hitting them at a target across the garden. I had been successful at every attempt I made.

"Sadly he is not. You were recruited to fight. We were as well," Dawnlight sighed. She started to twirl her shoulder-length blonde hair around her finger, "things like this happen when you're a gifted child."

I shook my head, "But I don't want to fight. I don't wanna hurt people." I stated as I shot an arrow on fire across the garden to the target on the far side, "Why me I'm only twelve!"

"It's your accuracy and strength with fire, Miss Mellissa. That's why we chose you." The director of our academy walked out into the garden to see me holding my bow up still to the target, "You can protect us from invasion. You are strong with your fire and can hold off their frontlines. They are coming for us, you know that well, Mellissa."

"Do it for Sheria," Weird-o game me a light smile, "If we don't hold them off at the front gates when they come then we'll be watching this city burn. We can't just sit here and do nothing."

"Fine, for Sheria..." I mumbled, "but she is not getting into this. I don't want her here I want you to keep her safe."

Our director nodded, "that can be arranged."

I nodded in response before I was just practicing my blind shooting, "I don't fight to fight. I fight only to protect the ones I love. You can't make me do anything else."

"It is not our intention to impose anything else on you. I do hope you start to prepare though."

"We'll prepare her well sir. Where and when do you want us to report to our battle stations?" Weird-o stated.

The director gave Weird-o a very stern look, "The front gates at four hundred hours sharp. We must be prepared."

"Four in the morning!?" I stated as I released another arrow in the direction of the target. I hit yet another bullseye.

"We must beat them too it." Dawnlight sighed, "I assume that you'll leave me on protection details?"

The director shook his head, "Protection details of Miss Mellissa as well. Both of you need to watch her in this war."

And it was that moment I knew everything was going to hell.
