Four Years Later...
"So, as you guys can see if we increase the price of our items even by two percent we still get lots of profit from it, and by adding various new products to sell our stocks can go from this." He said pointing to the graph. "To this. Understood?"
At the age of twenty-one I was a stock market representative for Wal-Mart. It wasn't the most fun job in the world,
but it paid well. After spending the rest of high school in Maryland, I finally decided to move back to Louisville and rekindle my relationship with Carmin and my mother. Living with my father, his new wife and two children took a little time for me to adjust to the new changes. My father was the CEO of the whole Wal-Mart stock market, which is why I got this job. Bryson? Never seen him since.
"Carmin!" My boss yelled snapping me out of my daydream.
"Yes?"
"What can we do to our market to make our profits increase? Any ideas?"
"Maybe we could open up more Wal-Marts in certain areas that don't have many." I responded uninterested in the meeting.
If my boss didn't have a huge crush on me, or if my father wasn't the CEO, I would've been fired by now.
"Maybe that's something we can look into... That's all for this meeting." He said as everyone got out of their seats.
After that, I proceeded to my office desk which consisted of pictures of my step-mom, my father, my real mother, and my step brother and sister. Laila who is six and Christopher who is nine. Surprisingly, I got along with all my step siblings and step-mother really well.
"Jailee, am I disturbing anything?" My boss asked peeking his head in the doorway.
Yes
"No, what's wrong?" I said putting a fake grin on my face.
"You are to have a presentation ready by Monday for our next stock meeting. I believe you can highlight some good points about our market."
"Will do." I enthusiastically replied even though I had no interest in doing it.
With this job, all I had to do was attend boring half-hour long meetings and sit at a desk and do nothing. I really couldn't complain though, this job paid really well.
After sitting at my desk doing a little online shopping it was finally time to leave. Once I unlocked the door to my condo I was greeted by my dog Bella and Carmin laying on the couch watching some show on the ID channel.
Life lesson #1- Never give your best friend the keys to your place because they'll never leave.
"How was work?" She asked.
"Boring as usual." I replied sitting my purse on the kitchen counter and took a seat by her on the couch.
"There's something I've been dying to tell you!"
"What?" I questioned.
"There's a party tomorrow night at that club down the street and I want you to go with me."
"I don't know about that."
"I know you're supposed to be 'Ms Businesswoman' and all but you have to have fun sometimes. Think about it you barely have a social life and can you even remember the last time you had a relationship? Or even talked heavy with a guy?"
Maybe if it wasn't for me moving Bryson could've been that person...
"Please just go with me and I won't ask you for anything, ever!"
We both know that's a lie.
I sighed about to give in.
"What time?"
"Ten."
I thought twice before agreeing.
"I'll go with you."
She shrieked in excitement.
"It's gonna be like we're teenagers again!"
I laughed at how she hasn't changed even a bit ever since we were sixteen.
I went upstairs to my room to get a head start on this presentation when I got a FaceTime call from my father. How did he even know what Facetime was?
Over the past years I've grown very close with him and his other family so I accepted it.
Three faces popped up on screen. It was Christopher, Laila, and my father.
"Jailee!" All of their voices echoed through the phone.
"I miss you guys so much."
"How's work?" My father asked.
"Same ole, same ole."
"Mark called me today saying you were gonna do a presentation on Monday, so I got good news."
"What?"
"I'm going to try to get a flight down to Louisville to see it and bring a couple colleagues."
"Dad..." I whined. "It's not that important for you to come all the way down here."
"Of course it is. Why can't I show off how well my babygirl is at her job?"
I mentally rolled my eyes.
"Tell that to the half of my life you missed." I said in a low tone so he couldn't hear.
"Are we going too?" Laila asked him.
"No." He simply replied turning her smile into a frown.
"I'll see you next week."
"Can't wait." I replied trying to sound happy about the situation as we hung up.
The only reason I wasn't too happy about my father coming down to Louisville, was because whenever he was around my mother there would just be some awkward vibe between them. As if something was between them that I had no idea about. For some reason, whenever my mother was around my father she seemed like she was scared to do anything, even speak. Whatever it was, I was sure to find out.
