It was a Saturday. Eliza sat on her bed looking at you. You were sitting crossed-legged avoiding her eyes.
"I heard from Al." She said, "While I was the one who introduced you to the Headmaster..."
She trailed off as your phone buzzed. You didn't even have to look to know it was Al. He had been blowing up your phone ever since yesterday.
She moved off her bed sitting on the edge of yours, a hand on your wrist, "I won't tell you what to do. Just...just make sure you're 100% positive with whatever decision you make."
You avoided her eyes. You knew she was just being a friend but you couldn't help being upset. Knowing this she left you alone, meeting up with other friends no doubt. Sighing, you flopped down against the pillow.
The afternoon sun shone through the window, the usual blue sky painted white. You flipped open the buzzing phone.
Please _ I just want what's best-
Don't do this!
You mean too much to me, to all of us-
That's how the messages went. He had even called and left several voice mails. You climbed out of bed, changing into jeans and a thick sweater. You left the room, your phone plugged into the outlet.
Outside the weather was chilly yet not quite cold enough for snow. Everyone expected it to come any day now, most of the students excited for what it really meant-Christmas vacation. Most of the students would go home and visit their families. A large part of you wanted to go home. You did miss it terribly. Yet the other part liked the idea of a vacant dorm, having the school grounds to yourself.
Leaving your phone behind you were able to think. Or you thought you'd be able to. Instead you found yourself by the Track field, the team wearing spandex clothing and gray baggy sweaters. Sitting under the bleachers you knew Al wouldn't find you here.
You sighed, your breath leaving you in a fleeting white puff. The track team stretched and did several laps. Al. Just who was he? A hero. A show off. A ladies man. But who was he to you? You shook your head. Your friendship had been tested so many times, and while there were...unique feelings what really mattered was being there for each other. The strange feelings would come and go-you dreaded Al leaving you.
What started off as a school tour somehow blossomed into this. Well, you wouldn't exactly say blossomed. It did grow-but with all the absurd things going on around you it was a challenge. Perhaps that's what made it so special.
The sound of footsteps made you glance up. Ludwig stood before you, using the cloth draped over his shoulder to wipe away sweat from his forehead.
"Hello."
You offered a tight smile.
"How are you?" He asked. Typically a normal greeting, you knew his had deeper meaning than that.
"I'm...I'm okay."
He blinked at your smile.
"Training, huh?"
"Hm? Oh, ja."
"Looks tough."
"We have to remain in shape even in vinter."
"...Hey Ludwig?"
He raised an eyebrow.
"Thanks. For helping me that day..."
You noticed his cheeks flush pale pink before nodding awkwardly, "Don't mention it. It is vhat friends do."
"...Ludwig? I-" You thought about telling him. You were so desperate for help, "I'm actually having a hard time."
