Kiku was sprawled out on the bed inside the hotel room, laying on his stomach.

Eliza frowned, "He was careless...he had done the same amount of protection yet he isn't as used to the sun's rays like the rest of us. Then to be out for hours really took a toll on him."

"Still..." You turned towards Ludwig, "Is there any 'vampire' way to help?"

He slowly shook his head.

"He'll have to let it heal on his own."

"Are sunburns not common among vampires?"

"It happens more than we'd like to admit but there's no 'cure', only prevention."

Taking out your cell phone you looked up remedies to help. The most common and trusted was Aloe. There were others like vinegar, lavender oil and honey-but none have really been tested, only suggested by one or two people. Deciding not to risk it, you dug into your bag for some Aloe Vera.

"Kiku?"

"Mmm?" He moved his head to look at you.

"Do you mind if I put this on your back?"

"..." He simply turned his head, taking that as a yes.

Standing behind him you had a towel laid down in case it spilled. The green liquid filled your palm, slightly sticky. Remembering your own sunburns from the past you offered a warning.

"It might feel cold."

"Uwah!" He moaned, the liquid coming in contact with his skin.

You slowly began to move it around on his back, goosebumps prickling his flesh. He soon got used to the hot/cold sensation, beginning to relax. You had poured more than you needed, trying to massage it all in.

"Uhn."

"I'm sorry! Was I too rough?"

"...no."

You wanted to use all of the liquid but his skin was sensitive. You moved your hands in large circles, rubbing it in gently this time. Taking a peek his face must've got a little burnt too, a light shade of pink. He let go of the pillow he was clutching, melting into the bed. Most of the Aloe had been soaked in, not nearly as red as it was before. Still, you would have to repeat the process at least a dozen times before it started to heal. This was helping though mostly with the pain.

"Are you feeling better Kiku? ...Kiku?"

His black hair hung by his closed eyes, sleeping soundly. You chuckled.

You spun around to see the other guys staring at you, "U-um I'll leave now so you guys can change."

Thankfully your room was right next door, Eliza already in her pajamas. Your swimsuit had partially dried, feeling gross. After a quick shower you were in your pj's as well, joining her on the bed.

"Today was such a long day..." You sighed, flopping down.

"It was. Too bad about Kiku. He'll get better soon though."

"I thought it takes about 1-2 weeks for those kind of burns to heal."

"On a human, yes. Vampires heal faster but it'll still be about five days in pain."

You frowned.

"Tell me more about vampires."

She looked up from her magazine slightly surprised, "Why the sudden interest?"

"I wouldn't call it sudden. Besides, all my friends are. Isn't it natural to want to know more about the people you care about?"

"...I understand why you're interested..." She thought hard, trying to decide how to word things, "but the more you know the more you're at risk."

"What? That doesn't make sense. If you're concerned about me telling"-

"Of course not_...it's just the more involved you become the harder it will be when..."

"When what? If the Headmaster was worried about his secret or my safety he would've done something by now."

"..."

"Please?"

"Fine. While you already know a lot there's still a lot more you don't. Like the politics." She turned towards you crossing her legs, "There are a certain hierarchy within the vampire community. As advanced as today is vampires are old-fashioned. We are the youngest generation of vampires."

"Really? So none of you have younger siblings?"

"It's rare for vampires to bear more than one child. And while we might be capable of having children at this age...let's just say we're interested in other things. Among the previous generations, such as my mother, their goal was to bear children. That's it."

"Really? That is medieval."

She laughed slightly, "So as you can image there is quite the disagreement between the two generations. I don't want my life to be full of child rearing. I want to become an herbalist."

"Wow..."

"While I'm not against having children it isn't my sole focus. And we aren't 'born' in the same way humans are."

"Huh?" That didn't make any sense.

"Pure-blooded vampires are born from two vampires. However most aren't. Most vampires were once human turned vampire. This is their 'birth'."

As strange as it was it made sense.

"So what about your previous life? Did you just drop everything...?"

"Vampires won't turn humans if it isn't for a good reason. My 'mother' was the vampire who turned me. I don't have a father."

"So if you were recently turned what age would you be? Can anyone turn anyone into a vampire? What"-

"Slow down." She smiled, "You begin at zero or as an infant. Our lifespans are a lot longer than humans. So while we may appear in our twenties we can either be a child or centuries years old."

"I see..."

"The Headmaster is a pure blood. He is generations old; it's beginning to show."

He looks like he's in his forties at most...

"Hmmm...I don't think I'd like that." You continued, "I mean, outliving everyone. That has to be difficult. Sure you have your parents...and thanks to this school you have other vampire friends but what about humans? Any relations you made with them would be over in the blink of an eye..."

Crap. You accidentally ruined the fun mood. She was silent for minute.

"That may be true. Yet we have great memories and cherish what we do have. We'd never forget a friend. But if we seem clingy or fast to fall in love it's because we are emotion-driven beings. Some might not show it as much. The fact that we understand this is what makes us hold on to our human friends."

"So...you won't forget me? Even hundreds of years after I'm dead?"

"Of course not!" She wrapped you in a warm hug, "All of us...Me, Ludwig, Al, Feli, Kiku...we all cherish you greatly. Some with stronger feelings than others." She giggled.

Releasing you she picked up the phone, "Alright enough of this sappiness! Want to order a pizza?"

"Sounds good to me."

...You hadn't really thought of that before. That they'd keep living long after you died. Compared to them human lives must really be short. You decided to have fun with them while you could. And perhaps they were thinking the exact same thing.
