BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
You rolled over in bed, turning off your alarm. Toes on the carpet, you skipped to the closet, slipping into your new uniform. Today was it! The first day of the new fall semester. You were beyond excited. What kind of people would you meet?
"Eliza, you'll be late if you continue to lay there like that."
She moved slightly, "How come I'm usually the one getting you up? But now you're bright eyed and bushy tailed."
"That might've been me in the past but this time...this time it'll be different. I can be a new me." You smiled, twirling for her.
"It looks very cute on you. Now please go, give me ten more minutes."
You chuckled, grabbing your book bag off the floor, swinging it over your shoulder. Skipping out into the hallway you headed towards the dining hall, grabbing some toast with jam. You wanted to be early, hardly containing your hope for future.
Outside, there were other maroon-donned students crossing the lawn, cheerfully chatting. The whole school seemed to come to life. Thankfully you knew where your classes were, all relatively close to each other.
The classroom was empty, save for a couple talking by the window. You picked a seat in the back but not too close to the window where you'd get distracted. More students began to trickle in, followed by the Professor.
"Good morning class. For those who haven't had me before I am Professor Mallard and I look forward to our time together. For this is..."
You paid rapt attention unlike last year, where you would've yawned throughout the introductory speech. This time you were determined to excel, not barely passing like before. You were grateful for your friends but you were an adult and had to rely on yourself. Papers were passed back, a syllabus of sorts placed in front of you. Also a disclaimer about the books; 'you wreck it you buy it'.
A head of blonde hair caught your attention, momentarily thinking it was Al. But you two didn't have any classes together. Was that...? The man sat a few rows in front of you, not able to see his face. But he looked like someone you knew.
"That's all for today class. Please come prepared tomorrow! *I shouldn't have to be telling college kids this*."
First period ended, cornering the man.
"Hey."
"O-oh!" Matthew said slightly startled.
"I received your letter."
"O-oh..." He hung his head, avoiding eye contact. His hands were busy, packing up his desk and shuffling through papers that had already been organized for the 12th time.
He wore the same glasses as before, hiding his doe eyes. His uniform jacket was a bit baggy. He was pretty cute...
"I accept your apology."
"W-what?" He wasn't expecting that.
You giggled, "I accept your apology. We all make mistakes."
"Really?"
"Of course! I've had far worse happen."
He was relieved but confused at what you said.
"Crap. I've got to go to class but I promise to sit with you tomorrow!" You grinned, rushing off into the hall.

A few days had passed since there, slowly getting into a routine. You were chilling on your bed when a knock came from your door.
"Hello? Oh, Dorm President."
The woman smiled, handing you an official looking school letter. You raised an eyebrow but she wouldn't have the answers, walking off. You shut the door, flopping back into bed. The letter was relatively short.
Miss _,
It has come to our attention that you failed to join a mandatory club. Since all are full for the semester you will be required to participate in alternative activities until joining a new one at the next semester. You will perform these 'civic duties' every day after your classes.
You skipped over the rest of the text. Ah man, just when things were going good. 'Civic Duties' was a clever way of saying janitor. Tomorrow wouldn't be fun at all.
BUZZ, BUZZ.
Luckily your phone vibrated to distract you.
AL-Just wanted you give ya a heads up, Kiku is practically healed.
Oh that's so good to hear!
AL-Remind me to forget my sunscreen next time ;P
>< I wouldn't try that if I were you.-_-
AL-Aww, so mean. Anyway, thought you should know.
Glad you told me.
AL- No problem. Hey wanna hang sometime?
If I can manage to find time. :/ Free at lunch tomorrow?
AL-Yeah. Cool! See ya then.
You plugged your phone in on the charger, getting out your books to study. You'd be busy for sure.

He scanned the cafeteria, smiling when he saw you. Alfred sat down across from you, setting his tray down.
"What's up?" You asked, taking a sip of your drink.
"You studying?" He pointed at the books sprawled all over.
"Yeah. I'm not going to fail like last time."
"You didn't fail."
"I didn't exactly pass with flying colors either."
He chuckled slightly biting into his burger, "Do what you have to man."
"Oh guess what."
"What?"
"I have to perform 'civic duties' after class now."
"What's that? Sounds sketchy."
"Pretty much just cleaning up the whole school by myself."
"What?"
"I'm serious! I didn't see another student around."
"They shouldn't be able to make you do that. Did you mention it to the Headmaster?"
"No...that won't help. It's because I failed to choose a club."
"....Pfbbt."
"Al!"
"Haha! I thought it was as punishment or something! This sounds like it's all your fault."
"My fault?! So I forgot to choose a club. But cleaning the entire school?"
"Really? The ENTIRE school?" He teased, brushing off sesame seeds.
"Well, maybe not the whole thing..."
"You're so cute when you're wrong." He smiled, blue eyes staring into yours.
"Whatever." You huffed, stuffing the rest of the food in your mouth.
"Gotta run dude." He sighed standing up, "This was fun though. Let's do it again soon." He grinned, walking away.
You could feel your heart beating faster than normal whenever he smiled at you like that.
"...Stupid Al..."
