Skittering across the sand you headed towards the brown snack hut. There was quite a line but you didn't mind. You looked up at white signboard. $2.00 for a water? You started crunching numbers in your head. That was about $12! Your hands went to your purse but came up empty.

"That's right!" You left your wallet in your shorts pocket back with Eliza.

You started trudging back towards her, upset at having to leave your place in line.

"Oh!" You accidentally bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

"..I-it's okay."

The man you bumped into had slightly wavy blonde hair, a dainty pair of glasses resting on his face. He avoided eye contact, looking at anything but you. Thinking about it, he resembled Al slightly.

He gripped the hem of his T-shirt, "Did you..."

He seemed familiar but you couldn't place your finger on it.

"Did you get...a-a letter?"

"A letter?"

His eyes seemed to widen slightly with understanding, "N-never mind!"

He awkwardly rushed off, sand skittering.

...

"Umm okay?"

That was definitely weird. He seemed familiar but you couldn't place your finger on it...He mentioned a letter. You thought but only have received school junk mail. Sitting next to Eliza you decide it's not worth mentioning. However it wouldn't quite leave your mind...

She rolled over onto her stomach reading a magazine. Knowing her she'd assume it was a love letter. You lingered on the thought before shaking your head. You sighed. Man, I wish Arthur was here. It was all too easy to imagine him sitting under the large umbrella reading a novel, sipping iced tea. A smile crept across your lips.

Ludwig approached the connected towels you were using as a blanket, slumping down next to you. Exhausted from tossing Feliciano around he wiped his forehead and face with the corner of a pink towel.

"Tired?"

"Ja. Feli is small but..." He trailed off, deciding not to finish that sentence.

"Oh!" You quickly dug through your shorts pocket finding your cash.

Eliza peeked up from the magazine, "You don't have to do that. I packed some waters. Cheaper that way."

"Really?"

"Thanks." Ludwig spoke as he twisted the plastic cap off.

You tried your hardest not to stare. Peeking an eye open he tossed the bottle next to him, his body still wet from the ocean, brushing his bangs back.

     "What's up dudes?"

"Not much." You smiled, thankful for the distraction, "Water?"

"Thanks man." He winked, taking the bottle from your hands.

He sat to your left between you and Eliza, laying on his side. He put his glasses on, making eye contact.

"Hm?" He raised an eyebrow playfully.

"Nothing."

"Is that so?" He laughed before sighing, "I'm beat." He flopped onto his back.

"Did Ludwig play with you?"

"WHAT?" He choked on air.

You suppressed a grin, "Y'know, fling you into the ocean, toss you over his shoulder."

"...No. No he did not." He smiled again, "Like he could even lift me. Feli sure."

"I bet he could."

He was quiet, avoiding your eyes.

"Al? I wasn't serious...Al?"

"I was just thinking your boobs look huge from down here." A grin spread across his face.

"..." You didn't know what to say, your eyes looking to Eliza for help who only smiled before turning back to her magazine.

"AL!" You started punching his shoulder.

"Ow! Okay, okay I'm sorry."

You moved, Ludwig now between you two.

"Aww, c'mon dudette."

You ignored him, walking across the sand.

"Hello guys."

    "Herro."

Feli and Kiku were building sandcastles under the setting sun.

"Can I join you?"

"Sure bella!"

The wet sand was cool against your hands, pushing it towards the center.

"Having fun?"

"Mhmm!" Feliciano smiled, "Ludwig tossed me in the water all day. That was a fun game."

"Did you try that Kiku?"

"No...it seemed too scary."

You smiled, "That's okay. Eliza didn't go in the water once today. Some people just like to relax on the beach."

He nodded.

The three of you worked on a sandcastle together, Kiku not saying much. The evening sun was an orange-ish red, sinking further towards the horizon. The others relaxed under the umbrella, the beach nearly empty.

"Kiku...?" Feliciano asked. Kiku tottered back and forth, his face pale.

"Are you alright?"

"Uwuhh..." He mumbled, collapsing into the sandcastle.

"Kiku!"

You placed a hand on his forehead.

"He's burning up..."

You paused, now that you were closer seeing his skin pink.

"Sunburn?"

"Not just any sunburn bella..."

It was different, like holes singed into thin fabric. The skin underneath the top layer a painful red. Al rushed over with a water bottle.

"What's wrong dudes? Oh..." He trailed off seeing Kiku. "Let's get him out of the sun."

Eliza placed a towel over him as brief shade, Kiku wincing slightly. Ludwig gently picked him up, carrying him towards the umbrella.

"What should we do?" You asked worriedly.

Kiku moaned slightly, pain written across his face. Now in the shade his burns looked more severe. How did we miss this?

"Let's get him to the hotel."

"That's it?"

Al sighed, "There isn't much we CAN do. Burns on a vampire are different than your typical sunburn. They're more intense, more painful."

You frowned. Still, there should be a way to help heal severe burns. It wasn't quite a 3rd degree burn but there were small blisters forming all across his back. His chest wasn't as bad, as it wasn't facing the sun like his back was.

Ludwig gathered up all the water bottles, slowly pouring them over his skin. Once they were all empty you helped pack up the gear while Ludwig carried him to the van. You hoped that he'd be all right...
