You hugged your knees to your chest, shivering in the damp cell.
What now? What could I possible do?
You were completely alone. Vulnerable. You clutched the pendant around your neck, shaking.
I will be the downfall of my friends. Of all vampires.
Burrying your face into your knees you let out a sob, your wails of distress echoing making you feel even more alone, more pitiful.
Something scuffled around in the room. Raising your head you saw one lone bat, flexing their wings before draping them around itself once more.
"Well, not entirely alone I suppose."
"I see you remembered to wear the good luck charm, _."
You spun towards the door, only for the bat to transform into a man.
"Vladimir!!" You nearly shouted, rushing at the man, wrapping your arms around him.
"Where were you?! I thought- I didn't know where you were."
"I've been here, the whole time."
You peered up at his face, slowly letting go, wiping the tears away.
"I wanted to transform earlier but the guards..."
He trailed off, eyes connecting with yours, "I need you to listen carefully. I cannot stop the founder myself. I need help. Right now I need you."
Me?
"Stall for as long as you can. Avoid making him angry. Do what you must. Help WILL arrive, _. I'm sorry that I cannot do anything."
"Vlad..."
"I can't waste any more time here. I feel there's a noble prince out there, braving the snow, lost in the storm."
Your eyes trailed to the small window, watching the flakes swirl and dance.
"You're wrong." You looked back at him, "There is no prince. Just as I am no damsel in distress."
He broke out into a gentle smile, a tooth gleaming, eyes eternally red.
"Just...who are you?"
He grinned, kissing the top of your hand.
"It will all be explained my dear. For now, be brave. Do not trust a word that man says. He will try to break you in any way he can. The troops are readying themselves. To stand by you, their queen."
Queen? What fairy-tale nonsense is he speaking? Was this the same mischievous man from the party?
Before you could say another word he transformed, flapping his small wings, leaving the grimy cell. However you could no longer feel the cold gnawing at your fingertips and toes. Instead you filled with warmth. With courage. The blaze of determination.
"I WILL leave here. I will protect my friends."
"Oh will you now?"
You jumped back, seeing the masked guard from before.
"H-how long have you been standing there?"
He smirked, a gloved hand reaching towards you through black bars. You instinctively stepped back.
He chuckled briefly, lowering his hand, fingers curling around the bars.
"We're alike, you know."
"What are you talking"-
"Both prisoners. Both wanted yet unwanted. It would be easier if we were just dead."
