CHAPTER 44

Another long day had come to an end. You were given permission to use the showers, being escorted to and from the room. Thankfully you were alone inside the shower, entranced by the billowing steam as it rose above the shower curtain.

In a pair of pajamas you prepared to turn off the lights and go to bed early, when something caught your attention from the corner of your eye.

"Is that...?"

You crept closer to the mass in the far corner of the room by the ceiling.

"It can't be!"

The bat hung from a crack in the ceiling, it's slender form slightly unsettling.

What do I do? Call for someone?

You take a tiny step closer, the creature letting out a screech, flying around the room. Startled, you fall into your bed, eyes shut tight. No longer hearing anything you peek any eye open, revealing a man crouching on the edge of your bed.

"Ah!"

The man had light brown hair and red eyes, wearing dark jeans tucked inside knee-high leather boots with a red coat.

"W-who...w-what..."

"Nice to meet you _. I'm Vladimir, please, call me Vlad!"

"How did you...?"

"I'm a vampire. Though excelling in dark arts certainly helps." He winked, offering a toothy grin.

"Why..?"

"We're running out of time! Do you want to leave this place or not?"

You eagerly nodded.

"Good! It'll be hard to sneak you out in your current state but don't worry, I thought of that."

He grabbed your hand, pulling you out of the bed and through the now unlocked door.

"Oh my..." Your hand covered your mouth, several bodies lying limp on the tiled hallway floor.

"Don't worry about them, they're just sleeping. I put them under a spell."

He brings you near the bathroom, handing you a piece of fabric, "Here."

"What is"-

His hands pushed gently at your back, easing you into a stall.

"Can you explain to me why you're having me change?"

"I told you we'd have to sneak you out, didn't I?"

You frowned.

"Hey, how did you know where to find me? Or who I was"-

"You ask too many questions _. Are you finished changing?"

The stall door clacked open, your hands grasping the dark blue tulle gathered around your waist.

"Are you sure this isn't overdoing it?"

"You're positively breathtaking." He grinned, slight blush decorating his cheeks.

You looked over the off the shoulder dress, it's tulle bottom loose yet gorgeous in a way that made you feel slightly elegant. Now it was your turn to feel embarrassed.

"I don't think this dress will make me blend in..."

"Nonsense! It's like a knight saving a locked up princess." He mumbled more to himself than you.

Despite not knowing him you felt you could trust him. He appeared childlike at times yet was cheerful and friendly. After all, if he did mean you harm he wouldn't have gone through all the effort to get rid of the guards. Seeing the men laying still on the floor really made it seem like a prison break.
