The enormous building sat like a cold, judgmental parent against the gray sky. Arthur climbed out of the black vehicle, flanked by men clad in suits. Today was the day. The Council was waiting inside. His fate would be decided. Not only his, but _'s as well.
His footsteps echoed down the empty marble hallway, painted ceiling decorated with infant angels. Two men opened the tall wooden door, Arthur marching inside.
The court stood, quickly sitting down again.
A crowd sat behind Arthur, a table of men sitting elevated on dark brown chairs. The oldest man sat in the center of the row, face stiff.
"Let the record state that Arthur Kirkland and Mr. Constantine are both present for Kirkland Vs. Constantine concerning the case of Miss _."
A pair of hands typed away.
"Mr. Kirkland, as the challenger of this case you will be asked some questions. You will have fifteen minutes to present your case in the form of answers. If for any reason the Council cannot form an agreement we will continue the trial at the next convenient time. Neither party are allowed to leave the building until a decision has been made."
Arthur nodded slightly, palms beginning to sweat.
"With the formalities out of the way the questioning of Mr. Kirkland will commence."
Arthur hated this atmosphere. Cold eyes watching his every move. Judging his every word.
The first set of questions were straight forward. However Arthur was feeling sick to his stomach. _'s life was in his hands.
"I believe that humans are not a threat. And that it doesn't exactly matter anymore..."
"Young man, what do you mean by that?"
"It is true I challenged the Headmaster by drinking her blood. However...she consumed MY blood as well."
The room is in an uproar, gasps and murmurs echoing off the walls.
WHAM! WHAM! Of the gavel.
"Silence!" The Head Councilman ordered, the room falling quiet.
"Arthur Kirkland, you are confessing that you have done the worst act a vampire can do, turning a human?"
"I am."
More murmurs but he stood tall.
"The council will now listen to Mr. Kirkland's reasoning behind his decision."
He cleared his throat, "The Headmaster had no grounds to cast Miss _ under his spell as Precision Academy was not at risk.
Mr. Constantine countered, "Gentlemen, you are all wise men. You no doubt remember mankind's trustworthy past? Throughout the ages humans have done nothing but lie to each other. They only keep their best interest in mind, trampling over the needs of others. In the case of Miss _ I believe my actions were fair."
He cleared his throat, "There is nothing wrong with removing the existence of vampires from the girl's memory. There hasn't been a single successful case of a human learning of our existence without fatal consequences. I was looking out for my student's well being, protecting her from what might have been an unnecessary death."
The older men nodded, Headmaster returning to his seat.
"We will now ask Mr. Kirkland some questions."
Arthur stood up, walking over to the stand.
"*ahem* Do you, Mr Kirkland, believe that a society with humans and vampires living in peaceful co-existence can exist?"
