The office doors were impatiently thrust open, the man seated behind the desk unblinking.

"Mr. Kirkland. I thought you'd visit me today."

He slammed his fist down onto the desk, eyes burning with rage.

"Where is she?!"

"Arthur, you're an excellent student but please do try and remember the difference in our social standing."

"Cut the bullshit! Where is _?!"

"I don't know."

His eyes widened before returning to a glare, "You promised me. You said you would keep her safe!"

"I took the necessary measures. Must I remind you I also cannot be everywhere at once? My campus had become a killing field; Miss _ was no longer my top priority!"

"They were only here because of her! It was a diversion"-

"A diversion that cost lives. Do you realize how I must explain to the parents that their child passed away during my care?"

Arthur bit his lip.

"Sir, I understand. Things seemingly couldn't get worse. However she has fallen into some crook's hands! She couldn't have just run off somewhere."

"Except she did."

"...What?"

"That's correct. She voluntarily left her room."

"How could that have happened? Didn't you have security, or..."

"Yes I had several men guarding her room. I'm not quite sure how but they were all rendered unconscious. Due to the poor angle of the security cameras most of it is useless. I do however have this one shot."

He flopped a photograph to the table, Arthur immediately snatching it up. The image was of _ in a dress, a man holding her hand, the two leaving through the front door.

"Like I said, even this photo is almost useless since we can't see their faces."

"I must know who this man is. How did he even get in inside?!"

"I have some people looking into that but right now she isn't the primary focus. I have students who are trying to leave for home, others who already left without permission, this entire Academy is in chaos and you're concerned for one girl!"

"She isn't just a girl!"

She was so much more than that.

"Ah yes, the Water of Life. Do you know for how many centuries I've run this academy? Whether under this name or another it was all the same. I've come to the one conclusion every year. After the vampires graduate with new knowledge in their heads what do you think they do? They simply go back home to mother and father, getting ready to one day take over the family. They do not try to better human lives or enrich existing ones."

He stood up, placing his hands on the desk, "Vampires are greedy, selfish creatures. In that aspect our two species are alike. Vampires and humans have always been at war with one another. This fact won't change for millennia to come. I've tried my best to mend our relationship but have failed miserably. Thus we've come to this. _ is our last hope at mending a fraying co-existence. Surely you understand!'

"They will try to get rid of all vampires, they'll kill us!"-

"And did we not do it to them!! We turned humans to grow our own population and now they have the same choice. Grudges do not die, not even after all these years. _ is the key to us all living together in harmony."

"At the cost of our extinction!"-

"At the cost of some! As we did not wipe out all humans they won't be able to kill all vampires."

"And you don't think that we'd fight back?"

"I'm sure they've taken it into consideration. After all, during the Dark Ages humans fought back. Vampire lives were shed then, too."

"A small amount compared to lives of humans."

"This is merely a reversal of roles, Arthur. We hunted them, now it is our turn to become the hunted."

SLAM!

Arthur's fist crashed into the man's face.

"Tell me where!! Where is she?!"

The Headmaster coughed, blood splattering his desk, eyes fading into a glowing red.

"The Hunters Society, of course." He croaked.

Arthur shook the man, screaming, "Where?!"

"I don't know..."

His hands slipped away from the man's throat, falling limp by his sides.

"After they use her she will die. WE will die...I cannot allow that to happen. She's innocent!"

"Oh please! Does it even matter anymore? Innocent human lives were shed for food, vampire lives are shed in retaliation. This is an all out war and it's coming to a head. They will use her just as we have, as you have."

Arthur spun on his heels, shoes thudding against the carpet.

The Headmaster smiled, "I hope you luck on your survival, Mr. Kirkland."
