Irony, abstract noun.
Are you kidding me?! So close, yet so far, and of course it would be THAT person who ruins it all. The irony of it is unbelievable. Thank you and goodbye Josh Zerker.
Chapter twenty six: Irony
We went quietly down into the kitchen, and peeked in at the side door. Simon was eating cereal at the island bench, and talking to Josh, so they didn't see us. We scuttled into the living room, giggling.
"This is perfect," said JJ. "I'm gonna go grab him and show him the new sidemen merch that just came in for Insomnia, you go in to the fridge and put some chilli in his cereal."
"Got it," I laughed. I went and sat on the stairs by the kitchen, and listened as JJ dragged a reluctant Simon away from his cereal into the living room. I entered the kitchen, and went to the fridge quickly. Josh was just leaving via the side door.
"Catch you later, I'm going to the food store," he said.
(A/N: sorry idk food store names in England do I have any British readers pls enlighten me)
"Later," I nodded, not paying him much attention. I was looking for the chilli. I found it, and took one out of the packet. I broke it up into small pieces, and mixed it through the remainder of Simon's cereal. I put the rest of the chilli back in the fridge, and closed the door just as Simon and JJ re-entered the kitchen. Simon started on his cereal again, and JJ and I sat at the bench, awaiting results. It didn't take long. I watched as he stopped chewing, and frowned. He glanced sharply at JJ and myself, who were both trying hard not to laugh. A look of realisation and horror slowly dawned on his face.
"Oh you didn't," he stated. We both started laughing uncontrollably. "That's why you wanted me to go look at that stupid merch right then! Jordyn, you absolute traitor! Come here!" He stood up, and reached for me, but I took off out of the kitchen and upstairs, still dying laughing. I hid behind the door in Simon's room, and managed to control my laughter, but he still found me.
"Great hiding place, in my own room," he stated sarcastically, advancing towards me. I backed up until my back was pressed against the wall, giggling. He placed his hands on the wall behind me, and smirked.
"Where you goin, huh?" His smirk was gorgeous, and I was momentarily distracted, until he started tickling me. I squealed, and squirmed out of his grasp, but I tripped over in the process, and landed on top of his bed. He tried to trap me again, but I pulled him down too, grabbing his arms, and trying to stop him from getting to me. However, he was easily stronger than I was, and flipped us over, pinning me down and preventing my arms from tackling him again by trapping them under my body. He looked at me, and we both laughed. It dawned on me suddenly how close we were. I watched his eyes flick down to my lips, and back to my eyes again. He started to lean closer to me, until our lips were almost touching, but suddenly, his phone began ringing. We both sighed audibly, and he pulled his phone out of his pocket. It was Josh ringing him. He rolled off me, and lay beside me, and put the phone to his ear.
"What's up dude?"
"Just wanted to check if you want more of that cereal you were eating just now," said Josh through the phone. "We're almost out, and I might as well grab it while I'm here." Simon sighed.
"Yeah, grab another box I guess."
"Okay, thanks, bye," said Josh. He ended the call, and Simon pocketed his phone again. He sat up and pulled my head into his lap. We stared at each other. His blue eyes held disappointment, but the moment was gone. Ironically, ruined by our biggest fan, Josh himself.
"Life's hella wierd, Simon," I stated. He smiled.
"So wierd," he nodded.
Lachlan finally made up with me the the day of my soccer semi final match, in which we'd scored the victory, off two goals from myself and Summer, and a beautiful penalty from Summer too. He Skype called me in the evening, while I was sitting at my desk eating Wokinabox, taking a break from recording. I hit accept, and after a moment, his face popped up on the screen.
"Hey Lachlan."
"Okay, maybe you're right," he said, giving me a small smile.
"You're lucky I know not to expect the actual word 'sorry' from you," I chuckled. He shrugged.
"I guess I just realised I was babying you a lot, you should be able to make your own decisions, you know those guys better than I do anyway."
"Thanks mate. I guess I should say sorry too, for getting so mad, you just got under my skin." We talked for a little while about how everyone in Australia was going, and it was nice to hear about them again.
"So I was thinking, your final for soccer is not too far away from Insomnia, right?" He said.
"Three days before," I nodded. "Why's that?"
"I might come over for it," he shrugged.
"Oh my gosh, really?!" I exclaimed. "That's so cool! Oh wait, you better stop trying to protect me from every male in Britain though."
"No promises," he laughed. "If one of them makes a move on you, I will have words for them."
"You're welcome to give them the brother talk, but be nice," I giggled. "You have a tendency to push it too far, not sure if you've noticed that."
"Oh shut up," he smiled.
"Who actually convinced you to lay off me, by the way?" I asked. "Because I know it can't have been a decision you came to by yourself."
"Hey!" He protested. But he did eventually admit that Vik and Preston had a fair bit to do with it. "Vik told me again how you were clearly having the time of your life here, and Preston backed him up. He said that you were strong minded enough to be able to decide who you could trust."
"Preston said that?" I asked, frowning.
"I think he misses you, all the minecraft players say they do. They're asking why you don't play any more. Tell me one thing Jordy. Why did you take your anger for me out on them?"
"It just always seems like they see me as just your little sister, they're your best friends, and I'm always just tagging along. That's why I like spending time here in England so much - these are the friends I chose for myself, and they like me for me."
"You're too intuitive, that's your problem," sighed Lachlan. "You read way deeper into situations than I can. But to me that sounds like you're saying we can't have the same friends."
"No, that's not what I meant. It just seemed like you wanted me to be with your friends all the time, but it's never gonna be like that. I love you to death Lachlan, but facts are, we're two different people."
"Oh, I know what you mean now," he nodded. "Okay, it's not gonna be like that any more, I promise."
"Okay," I nodded.
A/N: DAMMIT JOSH!!! (no sorry it was totally me who ruined it because I know exactly when they're going to kiss and it wasn't today haha) but hey, at least Lachlan's not being a turd any more!
K thnx Bai <3
