Unconscious Self Restriction

So much joy can be found
In the things we take for granted.
It can bring smiles to our faces
If we allow our minds to be opened to it.

Books are full of characters and events
Of sorrowful and joyous times.
They're filled with captivating worlds
That help us understand ours a bit better.

Photographs are filled with stories,
Of memories and of people frozen in time.
And the pictures will never change
Even if the stories get twisted, the memories are lost
Or the people in them have changed.

Drawings and paintings help you feel emotion
And see the types of beauty that exist.
They can be heart-warming or maybe heart-breaking
But helps you see things though new perspectives.

Songs and poems are soothing to the air
Or may give off a fresh, new vibe.
It's food for the souls, opinion through melody
And messages only the heart understands.

There's so much we're restricting ourselves to
When we refuse to let our judgemental minds go.
We're actually losing an important part of ourselves
Because we refused to find ourselves.

Our stubborn nature refrains us
From finding the keys to our personalities
'Cause once we set our minds to an opinion
It's hard to let it go.

There are some people that tend to avoid things that are different. I'm not sure why exactly. Maybe it's fear? Maybe it's because they don't understand? Maybe it's just the fact that it's different?

I feel like if we were more accepting of certain things and people, we'd end up discovering a part of ourselves we wouldn't have known existed had we not explored.

What do you think?

Until next time,
