Darkness

Darkness knows its strengths and weaknesses
Its arch enemy none other than light
That's why it prowls and lurks around corners
But makes sure it stays nearby.

There's something about that darkness
That uncertainty, that silence
Something that's special, just so different
Its presence is something to feel since it can't be seen.

It's a spectacle to behold, something terrifically beautiful
It's not as bad as we feel
The true beauty of darkness is really underrated
Something that not many see.

It's not really evil, even if you're surrounded
It's not the dark that gives you the chills
It's the aloneness, the emptiness it's associated with
And an anxiety of what's in it.

The darkness one should be truly afraid of
Isn't the one that follows the light
It's not the one that associated with physics
The one that's the absence of light.

It's the darkness within that's slowly consuming
If not careful, it's a recipe for doom
It is what makes us self-destructive
And it is a darkness that not many may have known.

This darkness is the birth of evil
It can easily consume someone
But once the darkness is recognised
Control is something you can gain.

Everyone contains that darkness
But I won't want mine to leave
As long as I can control
It can be a great companion indeed.

The dark is something that can be truly magnificent and beautiful as well as scary at the same time; both the physical and metaphorical manifestations. Sometimes I relish in the dark but other times, especially when it's pitch black, I'd rather if I wasn't so unaware of my surroundings. Even that bit of darkness that people tend to have inside of them. I don't mind having it there; it can produce some rather nice works sometimes but, other times, it can be quite painful and crushing.

What are your thoughts on darkness?

Until next time,
Ade Alethra.
