A Country Girl.

chapter one

One summer morning I went out to the fields my hat in my hand. The Spurs on my riding boots jingling as I walked. I found the herd grazing in the meadow. The head mare Carmel off in the distance. Her golden brown coat and blond main shimmering in the sun. I let her know I was there before I jumped on her back. I gave her a kick in the side and she reared then hit the ground hard with her hooves. Getting the attention of the rest if the herd they took off. I rode in the wind as Carmel ran and the herd following behind. My hat atop my head and my golden hair flowing in the wind. I rode Carmel as she lead the herd. The herd didn't notice me while we ran I guess they just thought of me as part of the herd.

Once Carmel lead the herd closer to the gate I stopped Carmel in the meadow and jumped off her back gave her an apple and a pet before I left. When I got to the gate. Ty the stable boy and my best friend was waiting there for me. " morning Hailey" he said "morning Ty" " I see you finished your morning ride with the herd." Ty said as he opened the gate for me "Yep"." breakfast is ready let's go " he said "great I'm starving".

Ty and me went to the house to eat breakfast. I sat at one end of the table and Ty sat next to me. "Breakfast smells great Amy" my grandpa said as he came downstairs his gray hair a mess. " thanks grandpa" Amy said as she put Ty and my plates in front of us. Amy is my big sister she helps manage the ranch. She is also a waitress at the local dinner. Since my mom died in a car accident when I was 4. I took her job of cleaning the stables with Ty, training the horses and pretty much running the ranch along side my grandpa, Jacob, and Amy . My dad left when I was born so I never got to meet him.

Grandpa sat at the opposite end of the table as me. Amy gave him his plate of bacon, eggs, and toast then she sat down for her breakfast.
After breakfast Amy and me cleared the table while Ty and grandpa washed the dishes. Then me and Ty went out to do our morning chores. We brought in the horses that were out in the fields and let out the ones that were in the barn we feed the horses that were in the barns. Then we took majesty a black and white paint mare , and Griffon, a chestnut and white Appaloosa to the training ring. With me on Majesty and Ty on griffon, we circled the ring giving orders to our horses.

After training ,me and Ty went in to eat lunch then, I went to find the herd in the meadows and Ty went to his grandparents house. When I found the herd they were on the far end of our 900 acre land. Carmel greeted me as I approached then continued grazing. I gave her a pat then went to the rest of the herd to make sure none were hurt or missing. All the members of the herd were there except Peach, Carmel's oldest daughter, a tan Arabian, was missing. She is pregnant and could give birth any day. I needed to find her. I ran as fast as I could back to the house and thankfully Ty was back.

"Ty ,peach is missing and she could have her cult any day now, we need to find her as soon as possible." I told Ty when I reached the front door to the house. "Calm down Hailey we'll find her before the cult is born, I promise." Ty said as he took my hand in his I could feel the heat rise in my face as he held my hand. When he saw me blushing he let go of my hand and together we went to look for peach.

We took shadow a black stallion and Hannah an American quarter horse out to look for peach in the far fields. We looked for hours but couldn't find her. I was about to give up and just as we were about to turn around to go home I heard a high pitched whiny. I wheeled Hannah around to face the forest that lined our land. There I saw peach lying on the ground in pain. " Ty, I found her and she's about to give birth." Ty came up behind me as I jumped from Hannah's back and knelt at peaches side. "She needs help she can't deliver the baby by her self and I don't know what to do." Ty grabbed me by the shoulder and I stood up to face him worry written on my face. "You can do this peach needs your help and I'll be here every step of the way" Ty said giving me a reassuring smile. I smiled back then nodded and knelt back down by peach.
