Chapter 59

Ty

Jacob and I were outside trying to find Patches after his outburst. We were just heading back to the house when we heard screaming. "What's that?" Jacob asked "I don't know" we started running and rushed inside.

We found Amy in the living room with Hailey, curled up in a ball crying with her hands over her ears. Jacob ran over to Hailey and tried to comfort her But she slapped his hand away. "Hailey, please calm down your ok" Amy tried but still nothing. Jacob tried to just talk to her giving her comforting words but she just screamed, almost like every word spoken hurt her. After a few more failed attempts they both turned to me. "What?" I asked "you know what. She won't listen to us, maybe she'll listen to you" I shrugged "I'll try."

I walked over and knelt down next to Hailey on the couch. "Hailey" I said in a low calming whisper "Hailey it's me, your safe it's ok" I laid a comforting hand on her knee. she jumped and moved to the other end of the couch screaming "No" and staring at me wide eyed and fearful. I looked at Amy and Jacob, who both wore a sad expression. I looked at Hailey cowering on the couch looking around like she had no idea where she was. We all watched as Hailey freaked, we couldn't do anything. After awhile she passed out again and Amy called the doctor. He got here about an hour later.

"Shes just in shock she should be fine after some rest" he said "ok, but will this have any effect on her PTSD?" Amy asked "it may but it we won't know for certain until she wakes up" "alright, well thanks again doc" "no problem, now I need to get going." He walked out and Amy turned to me "Ty, could you take Hailey up to her room please?" She asked "yeah" "thanks."

I carefully picked Hailey up and brought her to her room, then went back down stairs to look for Patches again.

After hours of looking, we found nothing, 'not again ' I thought as I rode back to the house ' Hailey's gonna be pissed when she wakes up.'

When I got back Hailey was still sleeping. I was really tired so I went home instead of staying for dinner.

I got home at 9 and found my mom already home. "Hey honey, your hime early" she said getting up from the couch and giving me a hug. "I could say the same for you" "I left early, and you?" "I was tired" "oh. I saw you found my gift, did you give it to her yet?" "No, somethings happened that took up most of the day" "what happened?" I sighed and sat down on the couch, mom sat next to me. "First, I want you to promise not to freak out about the first part, ok?" "What, why?" "Just say it" "fine I promise I won't freak out" "ok." I took a deep breath and began, "Hailey and I were attacked by a mountain lion, and a horse saved us" I paused waiting for her to blow up, but she didnt, she just said "what happened?" I continued "we were out trying to bring in one of the newer horses which hasn't been helped yet, due to Hailey's injuries and things, and the lion jumped out from the forest. I didn't have my gun so we had no way to kill it. I just watched as it crepted closer and closer, but just as it was about to pounce the horse, patches, charged at it and killed it." "Hmm, sounds fun" mom said sarcastically, I just rolled my eyes and shook my head, then continued "after we took the horse back for a bath cuz he was covered in blood and had scratches everywhere, but when we went to tie him to the hitching post he freaked. Hailey tried to calm him down while still holding the lead. Patches reared and pulled her down, right underneath him" she gasped "oh my gid is she ok?" "Yeah, she fine, sorta. She was able to roll out from under him just in time, but passed out from shock and because of whats already going on with her brain, when she woke up she was freaking out. She woke up screaming and crying, and wouldnt let anyone get close to her. After awhile of cowering on the couch she passed out again." "What's with her and having some traumatic thing happen to her?" Mom asked, I shrugged "good question, I don't know" "Well I'm glad Hailey's ok, and I hope she gets better." "Me too."

Mom stood up, stretching, "well" she said through a yown "I'm gonna go to bed, goodnight sweet heart" "goodnight mom." She kissed my cheek and headed to her room. I sat on the couch for a few minutes before going to bed.
