                                                                                       Hailey

A month after Ty left I was working on a new horse we get from an abuse case, we named him patches. When I finished Patches rehabilitation I walked back to the house. As I got to the house I noticed an expensive looking car sitting in the drive 'who's here?' I thought. I walked in and heard Amy and papa talking to someone in the office. I knocked on the door and Amy called "come in"  I w opened the door and immediately noticed the grave look on Amy and papa's faces "Hello" said a man in an expensive suit " you must be Hailey" " yes " "its nice to meet you I'm Malory Simon from the bank" "Nice to meet you too" I said shaking her out stretched hand. I looked to Amy and asked "whats going on?" she looked from papa to Malory then to me "We're selling the ranch" papa said. I froze. what? did he just say they're selling the ranch? They can't. this is moms ranch and I promised I would take care of it. "Hailey I know its hard to understand but with out Ty we aren't making the money we need to take care of the horses" Amy said standing up and walking toward me. I stepped back shaking my head "no" I mumbled "no." The tears began to flow down my face "Hailey  its for the best mom would of wanted this." What? did she just say mom would of wanted this, no she wouldn't she would of fought as hard as she could to save this ranch. "NO" I yelled and spun on my heals and shot out of the room "Hailey!!" Amy yelled behind me. she was hot on my heals. she grabbed me by the arm. "let go of me you bitch,I hate you, your trying to sell moms ranch with out even a fight you never wanted this ranch you don't care about it or me now let go" I screamed and wrenched my arm out of her grip and took off. She didn't come after me too hurt by my words but I felt no remorse or guilt for what I said. I ran out the front door heading straight for the forest. I jumped the fence and hit the ground running never missing a beat.

Even as the forest grew closer I never slowed my pace. I took off through the trees dodging branches and jumping fallen trees. I finally stopped in a clearing, looking around I realized where I was and that I didn't know how to get home. "no, its no my home anymore thanks to Amy" I said bitterly. After checking the clearing for any danger I sat under a willow  and rested. 'I wonder how far I ran' I thought looking around again noticing that I had never been here before.

I sat under that willow for about an hour drifting in and out. Then I heard a rustling sound in the bushes only a few feet from where I sat. I jumped up from my place and was ready to run if needed. Then a rabbit jumped out  and scared the crap out of me. I released a breathe I didn't realize I was holding. "you sacred me little guy" I said to it and it took off. I stood up straight and stretched. "Well I should continue to walk cuz I don't want to be a meal for a hungry lion" I said and walked to the other side of the clearing and disappeared into the trees. I walked a couple more hours. Walking deeper into the forest and further away from the ranch.

As I walked I noticed the trees getting thinner and more spread out, then I walked right into an open meadow and not far from where I stood was peach and her baby grazing on the strong green grass. Both healthy and unharmed.
