"let go of me you bitch, I hate you, your trying to sell moms ranch with out even a fight you never wanted this ranch you don't care about it or me now let go" Hailey screamed and wrenched her arm out of my grip. She ran but I didn't follow. My heart dropped and tears began to fall silently down my face as I stood there. Malory walked up behind me placing a hand on my shoulder "it's alright dear, I knew your mom well and she would want you to sell, for Hailey" she said " I'll be going now but I'll be back in a week or two to finalize the sale and collect the deed" and with that she left. Granddad walked up behind me and watched her leave. Once she was out the door I broke down, turning and hugging Granddad "its ok baby its ok she'll be back shes never gone longer then a couple hours" he said holding me close "what if she doesn't" I sobbed "what if she never comes back , its all my fault." Granddad didn't say anything he just pulled me closer.
As night came my worries grew. "she'll be back anytime now" granddad would say trying to comfort me but we both knew that if Hailey wasn't home now she wouldn't be back. After dinner me and Granddad sat at the table and watched out the window for Hailey, but she never came back.
A week after, Hailey still wasn't home. Malory came Tuesday to collect the deed but I turned her away telling her that I wasn't selling until Hailey was back. I wasn't sleeping much cuz I was staying in the kitchen hoping Hailey would walk in but she didn't. Monday of the second week I had had enough. I called the police and told them that its been a week since she left and that she normally wouldn't stay away this long, then I went to Ty's.
"What?!?!" Ty said, worry creeping into his eyes "what happened?" I hesitated "Amy what the hell happened?" I still didn't answer "Amy if your going to come here and tell me Hailey's been missing for a week you better tell me what made her leave." I sighed, he was right "fine, I told her I was selling the ranch" "WHAT!! why the hell would you sell the ranch?" "ever since you left we hadn't been able to afford another employee and Hailey couldn't do everything on her own" "you know how much she loves that ranch" "I thought I was for the best" "for who? Hailey or you?" " Hailey, everything I do is for Hailey" I said to defending myself "If that was true you wouldn't of sold the ranch." Ty said walking out of the room. I sat there alone with my thoughts, 'it is true, mom told me to take care of her and thats exactly what I'm doing. Isn't it?' I didn't have time to think of an answer cuz Ty walked in wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt, and his hat. "come on lets go find Hailey" he said and walked to the door without even waiting for me. I stood and ran after him.
When we got back to the ranch the police and Malory's car were parked outside. I jumped out of my car and ran to the door. When I opened the door a police officer and Malory were sitting at the table talking to Granddad. "whats going on?" I asked "Well Ms. Amy, I'm here to collect the deed" Malory said "I told you I wasn't selling until we found Hailey" "well then go find her, I'll stay here and talk with Jacob but hurry I don't have all day."
