"You lied when you told me you loved me" I said but as soon as the words left my mouth I knew I messed up. I saw that spark of anger die in Hailey's eyes. In its place was sadness. "Wait Hailey I didnt mean it that way" I said but it was too late. She took off running toward the door of the barn "Hailey please" I called after her but she didn't answer shit I messed up bad I thought. I stopped running and watched her go then turned and went back to the house. "Hey what's wrong with Hailey?" Amy asked when I walked in "nothing" I lie "are you sure cuz I just say her run from the barn and it looked like she was crying" "yeah she just needed to cool down" I say grabbing an apple from the bowl on the counter "cool down from what?" She asked walking over to where I stood "nothing" I say walking over to the table not meeting her eyes "Ty, why are you lying to me?" "I'm not" "Ty" She said somewhat angry. "If you don't tell me what's going on so help me I will beat it out of you" I flinched at the threat then gave in "fine but first can you move away from the counter and the knives and sit down cuz I don't want to die yet" I say moving any and all objects that could be used as a weapen that was close enough for Amy to grab with out her getting up "ok...?" She said cautiously sitting in a chair. I sat back in my chair and moved back a little "ok" I took a steadying breathe "do you remember what you said at lunch?" "Yeah? Wait was it because of what I said?" She asked I didn't answer "Ty?" I sighed "kinda" "oh I didnt mean anything of it, its just I'm just so happy Hailey finally has something else to focus on other then the ranch" she said hurt and regret seepping into her voice "its not so much your fault as it is mine" "how so?" I didn't say anything I knew she would kill be "Ty what happened?" She asked sternly "well..." I took a steadying breathe "when Hailey came out to the barn today we said some stuff..." "What did you say?" She asked cutting me off "it not improtant, what Hailey said this morning then what she did at lunch hurt me and so to make a point during our argument I said something dumb hurt her but didn't know I did until it was to late and she ran off" I finished "ok... Well can you tell me what the two of you said this morning and what you said to her just now?" "No" I said staring at my shoes to avoid eye contact "why not?" "Cuz I dont want to die" "Ty, tell me" she said impatiently "why?" "Because Hailey is my younger sister and its my job to take care of her" I sighed nervously 'she's right' my conscience states "fine just give me a five second head start after I finish telling you" I say standing up "alright??" I take a deep breathe "we told each other we loved each other this morning and after her acting like nothing happened I was hurt and so when we were arguing I said..." I paused taking a step away from Amy " what did you say?" "I wasnt thinking and I said she lied to me and that she didnt mean it" "YOU SAID WHAT!!!!!!!!" She yelled and I flinched, but didnt move "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU'RE A DANM IDIOT" she said standing from her chair "I didn't mean it really" I said slowly walking closer to the door "1" she said stepping closer to me "whAt are you doing" I asked my voice cracking in fear as I did "2" she continued to count down, then it hit me, she was counting down my five seconds "3" she said still drawing nearer. I ran out the door and out to my truck. I looked back to the door when I reached it to find Amy was not there. I opened to door and got in. I looked out the window to where Hailey had ran a single tear escaped my eye and I wiped it away before turning the ignition and I drove out of the drive.
