My Only Love

Chapter 6

          It was two more days before her big date with Ryan and Kate was filled with excitement and anticipation. It had been ages since she went out on a date realizing how out of practice she felt not knowing what to do. She had always been with Nate who she was so comfortable with. If ever she had any admirers they immediately turned to dust as fast as they entered her life. They felt that she belonged to Nate and can never compete with him so they just stop coming. But it was different now she was capable of making her own decisions and exploring meeting other guys on her own.

She and Shelly were in the company cafeteria discussing plans on their coming double date giggling like little kids acting as if they were still in high school.

You know Ryan's excited Tim's been telling me. He keeps on asking what you would like. Ways to impress you that sort of stuff. And you know Tim he always spills the beans. His loyalty is only to yours truly. She said smiling at Kate.

What if he doesn't like me Shel? It can happen you know. Some blind dates turn out terrible and you wish the night would just end.

You're such a worry wart. I' m confident that he will. Shelly chided. He's a very nice guy, down to earth, with no airs and super rich I mean as in super duper Kate.

Kate could only daydream. She was not particular if he were rich or not. Material things never mattered to her what was important was that he was a nice guy and decent enough. Like Nate she knew he didn't have much. He achieved his dreams through his hard work that was most admirable to Kate. The ambition and the drive of the guy. Nate had those qualities even so much more. she thought to herself.

Wow great! What would he do with an ordinary girl like me then? He must have hordes of rich girls ready to snag him.

Tim says Ryan's different he 's not looking for that. Actually tired of it. I think he'll be happy to have someone like you. It seems Shelly was positive that she and Ryan would really like each other. Kate crossed her fingers but deep inside she was nervous as hell.

He's picking you up at 6:30 pm cause we have reservations at 8 for dinner. We're going to the country club some fancy place there. I know we're going to love it! We'll meet you both there.

Thinking of the country club all thoughts of Kate filtered back to that beautiful night she and Nate shared. Nate singing and pouring out all his feelings for her to see on bended knee. It was something so unforgettable. It was so special that it brought a flutter to her heart just remembering it. Kate told Shelly every single detail of what happened and she too was touched. She had to scold herself she had better stop thinking about Nate and start focusing on her upcoming date with Ryan instead.

I don't know when you mentioned the country club all I can think of was Nate saying "YOU" to me. It was the most romantic thing he has ever done and even on bended knee. The way he sang it came from the heart so it came out so beautifully. It brought tears to my eyes. Kate mused as she told Shelly it brought tingles inside her even till now.

He is sweet. He really loves you you know. He might not say it in words but as he said to you look deeper.

I know. Kate said wistfully recalling that special night and how Nate kissed her as if they were only the two people inspite of the audience going wild.

Speaking of Nate have you told him about your Saturday night date? I know you have a standing thing every Saturday. He might be making plans for both of you not even aware you have a date. Shelly said.
