Kate felt really happy as she continually engaged herself in conversation with Ryan's parents. They were wonderful people. So natural and down to earth in their ways. She realized that she was worrying in vain. She gladly accepted her and welcomed her as part of the family.
The only guilt she felt about was Nate. Why she had to bring him here. To serve as her bodyguard? To protect her from what? Everyone had been so kind to her. Mom and her crazy way of thinking. Kate knew Nate felt like a third wheel. It even bothered her the way he looked at her as if he was seeing right through her reading her thoughts. That everything was perfect for her. But what about him? Where was his place in all this? What worried her even more was the sadness in his ocean blue eyes. How it pained him to see everything. Hebarely touched his food. Functioning yet Kate knew he was out of sorts.
There was a band playing the beat lively as Kate caught sight of some couples dancing. She heard laughter and could make out Nate and Carla having a good time on the dance floor. They were both good dancers as Nate twirled Carla around expertly. Nate was a very good dancer remembering the great times they had just dancing together. They even looked good together. Seeing them both so relaxed and carefree. Kate could see that Ryan's cousin evidently liking Nate. She felt a slight tinge of jealousy. Any girl would be lucky to land him. Nate was those rare good guys. He was even very smart. Responsible and mature in his ways. Not to mention how strikingly handsome and charming he was. He deserved to have a good time. It was already enough sacrifice for him just by being with her. And yet she felt a stab of jealousy that wouldn't go away. She was being selfish she knew scolding herself.
Kate's thoughts were interrupted when Ryan followed her gaze commenting.
They seem to hit off. Carla and Nate. They're having a good time. One thing Carla loves to do is dance. As you can see. He grinned knowingly. I think Nate feels the same way.
Yeah. They are enjoying. Kate replied back but deep inside she couldn't ignore that twinge of jealousy. She was always like that whenever Nate was concerned. She knew she had Ryan who loved her dearly. Nate deserved to find a girl for himself. He could have anyone she knew but some part of her felt no matter the girls that threw themselves at him he always came back to her.
Too bad I don't dance. Ryan remarked still looking at Nate and Carla.
The band was starting to play a soft tune as the lights dimmed a little on the dance floor where the couples swayed themselves to the sweet music holding each other closer.
Who says you're not going to dance? Kate's eyes danced in mischief. Tonight is the night you're going to dance Ryan Montgomery.
Oh no. Ryan groaned turning red. I'm a mess on the dance floor. I have left feet and I just might make a fool of myself.
Not if I'm the teacher. And the best part you get to hold me close in the sweet music. Kate smiled enticingly.
Pretty please my love. She said still trying her best to convince him. Acting like a puppy with pleading eyes.
Ryan was blushing rolling his eyes at her. I'm a klutz. I might even step on your feet. He implored.
C'mon lets...she said giggling. I know nothing is impossible for you Ryan Montgomery.
This time Kate curtsied in front of him and took his cold hand into hers.
May I have this dance? She said smiling at him with all the love in her eyes wanting to have this dance with Ryan.
