Nate felt a sense of melancholy as he and Amanda drove home. The time in the garden spent with Kate brought a flood of memories of that precious night that they spent together. Now, it was gone with one blink of an eye. He felt lost not knowing where to go from here. He had spent and revolved his life on Kate waiting for the time he could offer her a solid future and shout out to the world that she would be his wife. But what now? Even his days would be empty left with work and just his studies. Oh yes there were the Sunday's but were they enough? It was all so different now. He just felt discarded and thrown away and yet he had no control over it.
Amanda could only look at Nate seeing how lonely he looked. He had been so quiet as he drove seemingly deep in thought. She knew why. Kate. When she and Ryan caught them alone together she felt as if she had invaded their privacy. Had spoiled a special moment. She noticed the longing in Nate's eyes. His deep love for Kate. Some part of Amanda hated Kate. She had a boyfriend now. Nate deserved to find a right girl for himself and not pine for her. Allow Nate to move on.
They were talking about little things but Nate just listened and it was obvious enough he was doing it all for her benefit. He wasn't responding much. Amanda wanted to open his eyes to the truth.
Kate and Ryan. They make a lovely couple don't you think? They look so good together. You can see how in love they are. She said testing the waters as she continued on.
I can see how much Ryan loves Kate your best friend. She's picked the right one. He practically worships the ground she walks on. It's for everyone to see.
Nate heard what Amanda said and he felt sick to the stomach. The pain in his heart eating away at him. Must she be so dense, to talk about something he hated so much to hear. He felt irritable suddenly, finding himself short tempered.
Must you go on and on about them Amanda. He cried out loud. I get the picture okay I'm not blind! He snapped.
Amanda turned red at Nate's outburst. I was only pointing out..... she explained and stopped short looking at him hurt in her eyes.
I didn't know such little talk could bother you so much. You want me to shut up. Fine! She exclaimed.
Nate sighed then feeling guilt struck him. He had been an awful date he knew and now he even took out his frustrations on her. While Amanda had been so patient with him all night. He just felt downright depress and it didn't help matters that Amanda kept on rattling about Kate and Ryan.
He touched her gently by the arm as he drove. A gesture of apology. I'm sorry Amanda. I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I just have a lot on my mind that's all. Please bear with me.
Nate gave her a half grin, his expression contrite. Peace. He said again his voice quiet.
Looking at Nate's rueful expression. She could never resist him. She loved him that much even some part of her was hurt. She had to understand him cause some part of her knew why he was acting that way.
She returned his smile. Okay. Peace. She called back.
Nate could only sigh in relief. He felt Amanda understood what he was going through and he appreciated her for that. He also wanted to have some peace and quiet for a moment as he switched on the radio.
Like a particular station? He asked. His eyes that looked at her begged her to understand.
Her gaze that locked through his knew and she had to laugh. Nate didn't feel like talking his eyes were communicating to her.
