Nate felt lost as he left Kate's house. He felt an extreme sense of sadness, the same feeling he felt the day his mother passed away. Numbness filled him with a sense of desolation. Kate had a boyfriend now. She chose Ryan while all these years he had waited showing in all his ways how much he loved her but it was all in vain. All his dreams seem so fruitless now, what was there to work hard for? Dreaming of Kate as his wife. Who was he kidding? He felt the pain in his heart so great as if there were bricks on top of his chest.

His headache was killing him as he drove. He just didn't have any idea where he was going. He didn't feel like going home. All he wanted was to get drunk and drown out his sorrows. He needed to talk to someone. Mark Costner his best friend, he had to have an answer for all this. A strategy to get Kate back. Funny all these time he had been pushing himself to study so hard, preparing be a good lawyer. He had thought of only one goal and that was to give a good future for Kate, for both of them. Something he can offer her. Then life throws you a wild card. Ryan. And all those dreams were gone in one snap of the fingers. He felt his only love was snatched from him and where was he now? Thrown away like some discarded trash. It filled Nate with a bitterness, feeling hurt and anger towards Kate.

He was just thankful that Mark answered his call and they would meet at a bar Mark recommended. Maybe he had the answers for him. The strategy to get Kate back away from Richie Rich. Nate was beside himself, he couldn't even think straight. All his thoughts was Kate telling in his face that she loved Ryan. He could not forget those words. He felt so empty coupled with the pain in his heart.

How Nate reached the bar he didn't know. The Loop was just the right place to talk and there was minimal people. As he slid into one of the booths feeling weak all over waving to the waiter asking for a bottle of gin. He just wanted to get so wasted that he didn't have time to dwell on the pain anymore.

Nate drank as if there was no tomorrow. The liquor soothed his battered self making it an escape for his broken heart. He could see a text from Kate asking where he was if he had arrived home alright. It hurt him even further that she still did care for him even if she had Ryan now. Even in his almost drunken state he had to berate himself for being too slow in opening up his feelings to her. Now, there was no taking back now what came to him. The rug was pulled under his nose and he had no control over it.

Mark Costner arrived as fast as he could. Nate's call for help only meant one thing and that was "Kate trouble". He had been his best friend for almost 6 years now. They dated back since college days where they went to Boston University together both taking the same Business Management course. A hard worker that was Nate, he always excelled wherever he was. Remaining always on top of his class and graduating summa cum laude. He was his most reliable friend, someone you can count on. Mark can never forget the countless times Nate had bailed him out of a scrape. From helping him pass a subject to even bailing him out in jail for causing chaos in a bar where he got into a fight with one of the boys. Seeing him like thisit was his turn to help him and he hoped that he could.

Mark could see his friend Nate looking bleak his head bowed low giving him a wavering wave, he was half drunk. His almost empty bottle of gin beside him. Mark could only look at him with concern as he slid into the booth beside him.

What happened buddy? You're getting wasted I can see and you never do that.

Nate could only focus, he was dizzy like hell and feeling even more terrible. But it was an escape and being drunk helped him cope.

It's Kate. You remember I told you she was seeing someone this really rich guy? Well he proposed and she answered him. They're a couple now. Nate just wanted to vomit. It felt sickening to even say it.
