Kate was still deep in thought as she said goodbye to Ryan who had dropped her off at Nate's hospital. She was finally meeting his parents. It had to happen eventually she knew. She and Ryan had been going together for almost a year now and it was a serious relationship. But still some part of her felt nervous and uneasy. Always remembering the mishaps of the same situation in the movies. What if they looked down on her or didn't like her? She knew how elite Ryan's parents were. How rich they were. They could be snobbish and snotty. God knows. She also had to get her mother's permission. She sighed. Those thoughts nagged at her. But just remembering Ryan's love and reassurances ease all her anxieties. He was so wonderful to her. Every time she could only thank God for giving him to her.

She was still walking down the hospital corridor with half a mind getting ready to enter Nate's room. When she heard voices. A female's voice. The door was slightly ajar as she stopped short not entering. She slightly peeked at Nate's visitor. Curiosity made her eavesdrop. It was Amanda. Nate was holding her hand tightly into his own looking earnestly into her eyes. Nate was talking but his voice was soft as if he was apologizing for something. Something he had done. Kate could only get bits and pieces of the conversation. Amanda. She hated her not that she was a bad person but she was jealous of her. She was the only girl that Nate seem to like. She had seen them on numerous occasions always together. Knowing Nate he had an attraction for her. But her ears craned to hear more. She could make out Amanda's words.

You know I've always wanted more than that Nate. But I'll take your friendship for now. Kate heard Amanda say.

She growled deep inside feeling the heat rise in her cheeks. Wanting to pull Amanda by the hair and drag her out of Nate's sight. God how she hated her. Nate was even holding her hand tightly into his own and all the care and sincerity was there in his eyes. What the hell did he do to her to make himself so humble in front of her.

Kate didn't know she was capable of such horrid thoughts but with Amanda all those things applied. Even saying she wanted more than friendship. The nerve of this girl. She was a flirt and Nate deserved better. Not that she would be happy if Nate ended up with any other girl. She was as jealous as hell. She scolded herself. Why should she be? She had Ryan right? Who meant the world to her. Nate was just her best friend. But she couldn't help herself. Just the mere presence of Nate holding Amanda's hand made her blood boil.

Nate had always been alone. He deserved to be happy and have someone to take care of him. She was selfish she knew. But no amount of rationalizing could quell her jealousy at the moment. They were still talking when she decided to make her grand entrance interrupting their conversation.

She smoothed down her fuscha pink shift dress with the killer slit on the side tossed her honey blond hair and entered confidently as if she didn't have any care in the world. Kate had to play act as if she didn't hear them talking. Calling out Nate's name and just stopping short as her gaze fell on Amanda.

Oops Sorry I didn't know you had a visitor Nate. she said simply. Kate had to hand it to herself she was a natural.

She couldn't forget Nate's face turning red feeling awkward and embarrassed. Amanda tried to smile but it looked forced as if she didn't want the fact that they saw each other. Likewise. The feeling was mutual. Kate said to herself through gritted teeth.

Kate hi. Amanda dropped by. You remember Amanda right? Nate said clearing his throat.

Hi Amanda. Nice dropping by on our Nate here. Kate said and tried to smile but it felt forced in her face. She knew herself.
