Kate felt a little bit giddy over her kiss with Nate. It was hard for her to admit it but she truly enjoyed being in Nate's arms. His warm lips touching the nape of her neck to her earlobe created all passionate and sensual thoughts in Kate. She treasured Nate as her dearest friend but the feelings he stirred in her made her doubt about her real feelings. Neither both of them acted like a friend but something more intimate beyond words. With Nate there was always an electricity that went through her whole body with his hugs and kisses.
Kate could only observe him now talking with her mother. He always had good manners. It was obvious enough who her mother wanted for her. It was Nate not Ryan. She could also see how fond Nate was of her sharing a closeness that Kate cherished. He even brought her favorite donuts. The Krispy Kreme which she loved so much. A peace offering he said with a twinkle in his eye giving her a wink and an adorable grin on his face. Kate rolled his eyes. Nate was indeed a charmer in every sense any girl would want to rape him. She thought wickedly. She had those naughty thoughts again.
Her mother focused on her this time turning to her with a smile.
So how was your date? she asked
Kate had a sparkle in her eyes.
It was wonderful mom. Ryan's a great guy so down to earth no airs whatsoever. Such a good conversationalist we don't even run out of stories to tell.
Kate was carried away with her stories about Ryan forgetting altogether that Nate was just near them hearing every sordid detail of her date with Ryan.
Her mom motioned to Kate who was gesturing to Nate who was acting that he didn't like to hear a single word of it. He was absolutely silent looking down on his plate stabbing his hotdog and scrambling his pancakes. Kate was just lost in her enthusiasm and didn't mean to be so insensitive to Nate who was acting almost irritable.
Are you okay Nate? You're awfully quiet. Mrs. Peterson asked feeling sorry for Nate sensing what he was feeling. It was obvious that he hated hearing every sordid detail Kate relayed.
Nate looked up feeling miserable. Hating every word that described the wonderful Richie Rich. The look of Kate seeing how impressed he was with the guy sickened Nate further. And what was he now? Her audience to hear every glorious time she spent with him. How insensitive Kate can be she even forgot he was present. It hurt him to the core. It was obvious how much she liked that jerk. Raving on and on. Nate wanted to kill someone. Richie Rich first then Shelly the next.
I'm fine Mrs. Peterson. Don't worry about me. The pancakes are good. He forced a smile at Kate's mom but when Kate looked at him he averted his eyes.
Conversation flowed but Nate was not with them. He had turned awfully quiet. He politely answered her mother but made no move at all to talk to her. Oh yes he replied but with a curt nod and a grunt. Kate knew she was at fault and here she was wanting to ask him to go malling with her. She had to buy a gift for her boss for his upcoming birthday this week. Kate blew it she knew. She could sense that Nate was in a foul mood. He barely said a word even as they were doing the dishes. Nate could see Kate look at him wondering why he was acting that way but he pretended not to see avoiding her puzzled look.
You're such an Oscar. she remarked. That's the term they called each other when they were grumpy.
Silence. He just kept on scrubbing the pans as if his life depended on it.
What is wrong with you? she nudged him and all she got was a glare.
Can't a guy be quiet for once! Oh and maybe you want me to apologize again and kneel at your feet. he said sarcastically. His mood was terrible.
