My Only Love

Chapter 34

Nate drove home feeling all his bones ache. It was a holiday yet they had to render a whole day of overtime in the office. He was raining in work. He was assisting his boss Connely in 3 major cases that just came in doing the in depth research, drafting the pleadings and typing the legal documents needed. He knew he was gaining all the experience he needed. One that would prepare hisfuture as a lawyer. He knew it had its rewards judging from the glowing recommendations he got from Connelly. He was going to be the most likely candidate for the soon to be vacated Senior Paralegal position. A position he had longed ago aimed for. It was almost within his reach now. It was Nate's lifelong dream to work for the senior partners gaining even more the experience he needed. But at the end of the day he was really dog tired and drained from all the hard work. All he wanted right that moment was to have a nice hot shower and curl into bed.

His thoughts drifted to Kate as he caught a glimpse of her office building as he drove. It had been a month ever since their memorable moment at the carnival.Savouring the kisses they shared. How wonderful it felt to have her in his arms. But it was never repeated again. It was like for one brief moment they forgot themselves and it was back to friendship once again. She was still with Ryan and nothing had changed. While he was spending a lot of time with Amanda. Nate had a feeling Kate felt it that there was someone in his life. She would tease him mercilessly about it but getting no reaction from him. He wanted things to be private. Amanda was a friend and he wanted it to remain that way.

But at the end of the day when he came home from school it was still Kate in his thoughts no matter the time he had spent with Amanda. He had made up his mind. It was time to open his heart to her regardless of the consequences. He would do it after her birthday. Nate felt a jittery yet excited feeling overcome him whenever he would think of the thought. It was going to be a make or break with him. Also if she would leave Ryan for him. That was the big question. But with Kate he was willing to take his chances. That's what love was all about taking risks.This risk Nate was willing to take for all his love for Kate.

The only unexpected complication in his life was Amanda. He knew he didn't need another dilemma in his life. But this time he felt it went beyond his control. The first date dinner date they had followed other dates. He knew he wasn't prepared for the commitment. But somehow he got caught in between. Some part of him didn't want Amanda to expect yet the other side of him yearned for her affection and how much her love he needed.

They were spending a lot of time together. Everyday. She would wait for him by the lounge area in between his classes just talking about their day. Which he in turn did the same thing for her finding himself longing to see her. Wanting the joy of her company just talking about their law classes, laughing at some shared joke. Studying together in the school's library or most of the time in his apartment.

Amanda became a frequent visitor in his apartment. She loved his "One Step apartment" labelling it as cozy no matter how small it was. He could only roll his eyes in amusement seeing how she loved his place. Never materialistic loving him for who he was. But he enjoyed her there. Looked forward to her visits. She would surprise him sometimes with food she brought wearing a very revealing blouse and skin tight jeans that put his libido on fire. In subtle ways she showed how much she loved and wanted him. But oftentimes he exercised caution. He put all the reigns in himself even how difficult since Amanda was very desirable in every sense. But he was not the type to take advantage knowing it was still Kate that mattered to him. He remained the perfect gentleman still giving her the signs that he wasn't prepared. At this point he knew he could not give what she needed from him. But she was liberal minded accepting the situation with an open mind. That's what he liked about her. Somehow somewhere along the line Nate felt they had a mutual understanding with each other. He was starting to have a girlfriend without him realizing it.
