It had been almost three months eversince that fateful night he proposed to Kate and life went on for Nate. It was hard coming back to work and school feeling the pity in their eyes as he looked weather beaten. But this did not discourage him from rising out of his state and to the road of his recovery. Nate was just thankful for the outpouring of support he got from his friends cheering him on to get back on his feet again. It was a hard struggle for Nate but this only pushed him to take better care of himself. Eat betterand love himself for a change. He geared all his energies on his work and to excel in his studies. His career was doing well learning the best he could and at the same time gaining the approval of the senior partners at work. Even his studies were excellent even with the setbacks he was still on top of his class. Nate cherished these achievements. He would like to console himself that at least this part of his life was complete. But at the back of his mind he missed Kate terribly. Wondering how she was. How things are between her and Ryan. Many times he would stop himself from calling her just wanting to hear her voice. He was content just to pass by Kate's house knowing she was there. This he did everyday just to satisfy his yearning for her. Nate's inner satisfaction was in his volunteer work during weekends where he spent long hours with abused children making them happy trying his best to fill up the void of his loneliness. Nate's greatest fear is that he would wake up one morning with a wedding invitation from them that would shatter his life once again.
It was his 25th birthday today. Feeling touched with his friends from the office who even prepared a small party for him. Headed by Mariel Taylor the senior paralegal who was working closely with him. She was beautiful, intelligent and incredibly flirty making her actions obvious enough that she wanted him. She made no secret about that. But Nate was wary. He was still nursing a broken heart and was scared to get involved. Recalling all too clearly his tragic involvement with Amanda. His thoughts going back awhile ago where Mariel was practically body to body with him on the dancefloor her fingers enticing him in every sense. He could only excuse himself crutches and all just to escape temptation feeling sweat on his forehead. He just wanted to have some peace and quiet and withdraw from her advances.
Nate sighed as he sat down tiredly as he tucked his crutches beside him. His legs still hurt the effect of his fall still evident. Two weeks before his birthday he fell from three flights of steps in his apartment. His thoughts were on Kate at that time imagining her walking down the aisle with Mr. Richie Rich and he just slipped. All went black. He had a brush with death again. The fall broke his right leg. He would be in a leg cast for three months. He was just thankful a fellow neighbor found him and brought him immediately to the hospital. Again Natewas grateful to his best friend Mark who rescued him one more time. He even hada new nickname for him calling him Mr. Disaster. His gratitude for his best friend knew no bounds.
Nate just wanted to be alone away from the crowd just being quiet with his thoughts. He thought of Kate. It was his birthday and she hadn't called. It was almost time to go home. The realization of her not remembering brought a big pain in his heart. Didn't she even care anymore? Had she forgotten that easily? For Nate he had not forgotten. All their beautiful times even her tearful face as he said goodbye for the very last time were still as vivid. Every night no matter how tired he was he would think of Kate. Some part of him was still hoping that God would grant his fervent wish and bring her back to his life. Nate always believed in the saying. When you love someone you have to set her free. If she doesn't come back she was not meant to be yours but if she does Love her Forever! He always believed in that saying. He still would not stop hoping. When you live. You hope. Nate missed her so much making sure his phone was beside him waiting for a call or maybe just even a text from Kate. Just to assure himself that she still cared. He was interrupted from his thoughts with a familiar booming voice. Mark his best friend.
