After the incident with Nate there was a change in Ryan. Kate couldn't just quite put her finger on it. They were in other club, The Cavana together with Shelly and Tim. The ambiance was roaring but how they were acting was strained. Ryan was with her fine but he was awfully quiet as if there was something on his mind and just didn't know how to say it. He was going through the motions with her but only replied when he had to. This bothered Kate and knew something was amidst.
She could never imagine how things can be so complicated. She was still getting over the fact that Nate was with a girl driving her livid with jealousy and now Ryan who wasn't saying a single word as he woodenly fetched their drinks together with Tim. While she and Shelly were left alone at last to talk.
Something's wrong with Ryan Shelly. He's been awfully quiet don't you think? I've never seen him this way and I can't understand why.
Yup I noticed it myself. You know how Ryan is. He's so transparent. It seems you'll know at once something's not right.
Ever since I saw Nate in the Sphere. I can't understand guys sometimes when something's bothering them they turn so quiet. I don't even know what's on their mind.
Why don't you go ask him? I get this feeling he's jealous of Nate. Maybe the closeness you share. That's how I see things.
What should he be? Nate is my best friend he knew about him even when we dated. Kate sighed then feeling lost suddenly.
Guess it's just better to talk to him right? Shelly patted her on the arm. You know how guys are they can be even more complicated than girls.
Right. Kate agreed but she was worried about Ryan. Maybe she always took for granted that Ryan would always understand but maybe Shelly was right. Jealousy does a lot of things to people.
After a little while, Ryan and Tim came with their drinks while Ryan sat beside her his face serious as he handed over her pinacolada. He still wasn't saying anything. He plopped down beside her and pretended to take interest in the crowd on the dance floor.
She snuggled towards him. She was just thankful he did not resist as he placed her arm on her shoulder holding her close but not saying a word.
Is something wrong Ryan? You've been awfully quiet. Are you feeling okay? She held his forehead to check if he had fever or something.
I'm okay. He replied still not looking at her just looking at the dance floor.
You wanna dance? I can teach you she said enticingly as she smiled at him adoringly. A really body to body dance. She teased.
He didn't look at her. I'll pass Kate. That's all he said. I know I won't measure up to how wonderful your best friend Nate dances. So why even try. His jealousy evident in his eyes.
Kate looked at him questioningly. What's bothering you? Nate?
But Ryan evaded her answer. Nothing. He said quietly and focused his attention on Tim as they talked about the stock market.
She felt dismissed and she stayed away from him after that. She left the circle of his arms fuming inside. He looked at her but she ignored him to and that was how it remained until they left the club.
In the car going home there was thick silence. Kate was all to reminded of the times she and Nate had a petty fight and he would be so quiet giving her the silent treatment until she would go nuts. Kate could not understand why she could have two guys exactly of the same mold. This was the same situation now or even worst as Ryan was never like this.
