My Only Love

Chapter 13

Kate wasn't herself the past days. She wasn't feeling well unable to eat nor sleep. All her thoughts were on Nate how she had terribly hurt him. She could just picture his pained expression and the awful things she said. It was as if his visits were an obligation on her part just to go through the motions of entertaining him. She even said the word "suffocated" to him sounding so harsh on her part when she completely enjoyed his visits. Nate could just be plain stubborn at times no amount of her apologies could get through his head. She was already groveling but he was still making it so difficult. Anger got the better of her lashing out at Nate for being unreasonable continually badgering her even if she had pleaded with him. But still she felt very unhappy hurting Nate.

Nate said that would be his last visit to her. He said it with finality. His last words to her filled with pain. It ached at her heart why she said those things. She felt like blaming herself. She was filled with utter guilt. For days he stayed away. Kate half expected that he would try to text or call trying to reconcile with her but he didn't. But she had pride she apologized and that was that. But why did she feel as if she lost him completely? She knew deep inside she was in the wrong here. This time setting all her pride aside she would come to Nate groveling just to get him back. To lose Nate felt like a deep hollow feeling in her and this time pride didn't matter at all. All Kate wanted to do was do everything in her power to soften him up. Go to him no matter the outcome.

The only thing that alleviated her gloomy days was Ryan. He was indeed a comfort to her. Spending time with him every day as he picked her up from work she realized what a wonderful guy he is. As she got to know him better she saw even more the kindness in him, his sense of humor and his down to earth ways. Love was there she could see it in his eyes as she caught him staring at her. Even the tenderness he showed her. For Kate she felt that same feeling even as early as now.

It was a Saturday night they were in his BMW heading to God knows where. Ryan loved surprises. He even brought her flowers and this huge cuddly bear that was so adorable. He still didn't stop there even buying for her mom giving her a beautiful sweater even if there was no occasion. It was a designer one with a laced design that looked really good on her. Although her mom still acted indifferent to Ryan seeing how devoted he was to her and how hard he was trying to please her Kate could see her mom slowly melting her hard resolve. Somehow sensing he was a good guy and not just for show. No matter how rich he was he was raised well by his parents so unassuming in so many ways that touched Kate's mom.

You've been so sweet to my mom Ryan even buying her a sweater. It's really thoughtful of you Kate found herself saying.

I aim to please Ryan smiled back at her. And she even smiled at me. A first after so many times of dropping by your house. So precious.he grinned kidding her.

She swatted him on the arm just as he laughed. I know your mom doesn't like me so I'm trying my hardest to soften her up. And I think it's working don't you think? His eyes twinkled at her.

Kate laughed. Ryan can be adorable when he wanted to be. There was a warmth to his nature that came with his personality. He and Nate were alike in many ways at the same time different. That's why maybe she was drawn to him.

Nobody works as hard at it than you do. That I assure you.she said smiling appreciatively at him.

I told you I have my ways. Pretty soon she'd learn to love me and hand her daughter with no qualms whatsoever.

Ha ha Kate rolled her eyes. As if. That will be the day Ryan.

But Ryan just laughed sounding sure of himself. Oh that will come Kate. The way he looked at her was serious that Kate's face turned flushed yet pleased deep inside.
