Taking one for the team

Rileys POV:
I wake up to the sound of rooting and an annoyed voice.
'God damn it. There is so much stuff here. How the hell does she manage it.'
I see James going through the paper work and trying to put it away. I smile.
'I really dont know how I manage it' I say.
He snaps his head up and looks at me.
'Oh. Morning Riley. You fell asleep here last night and I didnt have the heart to wake you. I came in about an hour ago and started to try and sort this stuff out'
I nod.
I must have fallen asleep doing it.
I get up and go and wrap my arms around his waist.
'How do you like doing my job?' I ask.
'Its tiring!'
I laugh.
He turns around and kisses me.
'Thanks for helping'
'I told you I would! You should get some rest'
'Naa. Im good'
He smiles.
I pick up my phone and ring a number. To my surprise and relife a voice comes from the other end.
'Hello?'
'Alfie! Ive been trying you for days! Where are you! Are you okay!'
'Im fine'
'Where did you go?'
'Im in Switzerland. I couldnt stay Riley. When you broke up with me you crushed me. I knew you and James would get back together and it would have broken my heart to see you together. Im sorry Riley. But I wont be comming back'
He hangs up. Im shocked. I dont know what to say or do. I look at James.
'Riles? What is it?'
'Im so sorry. Ive let the team down. All because of my personal drama this might have cost us everything'
'What? Riley calm down. What did he say?'
'He-hes gone back to Switzerland because he was heart broken when I broke up with him. He-he said that if he saw us together it would break his heart. James Ive messed up everything!' I say looking at him.
He looks so angry and I can tell why.
'Riley. Riley! Relax! Its not your fault okay. Look at it like this. We still have 10 dancers to compeet at Regionals'
'But if someone gets injured we dont have anyone to take that place'
'Well we'll cross that brige when we get to it okay? Right now we need to tell the dancers'
I nod.
We go into studio A where they are all warming up.
'Guyes. Listen up. I have some good and bad news. Which do you want first?' I say.
'Good'
'Well I know where Alfie is'
'Where!'
'Thats the bad news. Hes gone back to Switzerland. With all the things that happened between me, him and James he doesnt want to be here anymore. So he wont be comming back'
They all look at eachother. Piper steps foward and stands next to me and James.
'You know what guyes? We dont really need him. Hes never been a team player. Hes always cared about himself and what he wanted. Look at Riley. She did a bad thing, but she didnt run away from the team. She sorted out her issues, and moved on and was here when we needed her'
She looks at me and smiles. I smile back at her.
'If we all come together and get through this we will win Regionals. It requires 10 dancers and thats what we have. So lets go and win Regionals and show Alfie that not even he can stop us. And if he doesnt want to pull it together and be part of the team, then fine. We are the best studio in the world and we can do this. What do ye say?'
They all smile.
'Allright! Now lets go and practice!'
They all cheere. She turns to me and smiles.
'I think youll make a great team captain for Regionals Piper' I tell her.
'Wait what?'
'We need a team captain at Regionals and by the way you handeled that situation, youll make the perfect team captain'
'Really!'
'Yes really'
'Eeeeekkk! This is amazing! Thank you!' she squeels.
I laugh.
'Your welcome. Now get over there and tell them the good news'
'Thanks. I promise I wont let you down'
'I know you wont. You never do'
She runs off. I watch her tell everyone as they all hug and congradulate her. I smile. James stands next to me.
'Good choice' he smiles.
'Yeah. I think shell do an amazing job. Shes dedicated and takes one for the team' I tell him.
'You do too'
I smile.
'I can wait for Regionals'
'Me either. But first we have a week at school to go through'
I groan. He laughs.
'Your cute. Come on. We'll leave them practice'
I nod as we leave studio A.
I cant wait for Regionals.
Its going to be amazing!
