Wish

James POV:
Im sitting on the chair in my moms hospital room. As I look at her I dont know what to think. Shes got wires comming out of her with a heart monitor. Riley walks in and sits next to me.
'That was you once you know' she says.
'What?'
'When you were in hospital. That was you all wired up like that'
I look at her.
'Were you scared?'
She nods.
'Yeah I was. I was scared that...one minute youd be fine and the next youd be there lying infront of me dead'
I hold her hands.
'Well Im still here'
She smiles.
I look at mom.
'When I told her we were engaged, do you know what she said?'
'What?'
'She said that no matter what, she was going to live to see us get married and hold her grandchildren in her arms. If it was the last thing she ever did'
She smiles.
'Did you tell her you were going to ask me?'
'Nope'
'Why?'
'Because I know my mom! If I told her, no matter how hard she would have tried, she wouldnt have been able to contain her excitment. She would have gone straight to you and told you. Then there would have been no surprise! And whats the fun in that!'
She laughs.
'I guess your right'
She looks thoughtful.
'What are you thinking about?'
'Remember when you were in hospital?'
'Yeah'
'Well...um...when you woke up after the crash...you were about to tell me what made you wake up, but the girls came in. What was it that made you wake up?'
I smile.
'Well...you made me wake up'
'Me?'
'Yeah. I heard you talking to Beth about the competition and how you left it for me. I felt bad about it so I thought that maby if I woke up, at least you guyes would have had a bit of hope, and maby I wouldnt have been letting you down'
'James...youve never let me down or anyone. Never think that okay?'
I nod.
She leans in and kisses me.
'She'll get better. And I promise that she will get her wish'
I smile.
'Thanks Riley'
'Your welcome'
I hope shes right.
