Chapter 25

**Chapter 25**

Kassidi puts her headphones in her ears as she sits in the waiting room at the children's clinic. Onah is already in with his usual doctor getting check ups and such.

He has been getting worse. The symptoms have started to show and he always has a stomach ache and headache. It's like a lump in his stomach. Kassidi doesn't know much about the cancer. Only that it is spreading rapidly and something about his spine being infected.

Kassidi turns on her iPod and turns on her music to Korn. She will be here for a while. Her appointment isn't for another hour.

"Hello Kassidi," Kassidi's doctor says to Kassidi as she enters the office.

"Hey Ava," Kassidi says and lays down on the little bed with the crinkly tissue paper.

Doctor Ava is thirty-five years old with with two kids of her own. Her husband is a dentist and she is really pretty. Her dirty blond hair is pulled back into a long loose ponytail down her back. She wears black glasses that compliment her face, and also make her look really smart.

"Okay, so how have you been feeling, Kassidi? Any problems?" Doctor Ava smiles at her and puts her stethoscope in her ears.

Kassidi shakes her head no as Doctor Ava puts the stethoscope to her chest to check her heart. She seems satisfied and takes the scope out of her ears and wraps it around her neck.

"No, I just really want chocolate right now though."

Doctor Ava chuckles at this and rummages in a drawer in her desk. She pulls out a candy bar and hands it to Kassidi.

"There ya go. At this rate your baby is going to definitely have a sweet tooth. Bad enough that it has one when it's only two months along." Doctor Ava laughs.

Kassidi smiles at her as she opens up the mini Snickers bar. She bites into it and let's the chocolate melt in her mouth. Yup, chocolate is definitely what she needed.

"Alrighty Kassidi. I'm going to do an ultra sound to just check the baby's growth and heart." Kassidi shoves the rest of the Snickers in her mouth. "I'm going to just have you lay back and relax as I check on everything."

Kassidi nods her head in agreement as she lifts up her shirt to reveal her exposed bloated belly.

Nicoletta laughs as her doctor puts cold blue jelly on her exposed belly. She moves a little device around her belly and Nicoletta can hear a heartbeat on the monitor next to her. She can't see a picture but she can hear its heart.

Nicoletta smiles as she listens to the heartbeat. Thump, thump, thump. Just like a drum. Loud and clear, beating in a beautiful rhythm that is unforgettable to her ears.

"Do you hear that?" Her mother Arabella asks and smiles down at Nicoletta.

Nicoletta smiles ear to ear back at her mother. "It's beautiful, mommy." Her eyes start to tear up and she has to blink them away.

"This is the part I loved the most, well besides getting to see all my beautiful babies after being born. I loved hearing their hearts for the first time!" She smiles and wipes a stray tear off her cheek.

The doctor continues to move the device around her belly and the heartbeat continues in a steady rhythmic pattern. Thump, thump, thump thump, thump, thump, thump thump, thump.

The doctor smiles at them both. "Things seem to be going perfect as of right now. We'll have to do a picture ultrasound in maybe a month or two though."
