I tap my foot, glaring at the heart monitor.

I focused on matching my breathing with Addie's.

"It's been five days!"

I flopped into a chair next to the bed.

"Even Alexander Hamilton died faster than you."

"Wow. Way to stay positive."

"Shit. Sorry."

I look around, noticing nobody else in the room but me, Addie, and a sleeping Darren.

The sun shined through the window.

I reached my hand down and grabbed a handful of M&Ms, popping them in my mouth.

"If this goes on any longer, I'm going to start reciting the entire Bee Movie script until you give up and wake up."

Silence.

"Alright you've asked for it."

I took a deep breath.

"According to all known laws there is no way a bee should be able to fly. It's wings are too small to get it's fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible..."

I heard a groan from the side of the room.

"Dear God!"

I giggled softly.

"It didn't work."

Darren stood up, rubbing his eyes.

"What didn't work?"

I stare at my handful of candy.

"She didn't wake up."

He sat next to me.

"She will soon. I promise."

My foot bounces on the ground.

"Charlotte, please go home. You've been in this room for ages. At least go into the garden for a bit."

I nodded, numbly standing up and leaving the room.

Before I could leave the hospital, a nurse ran up to me.

"You're needed in Room 216."

I dashed back to the room.

Addie was sitting up with Oak and Darren by her side.

"Are you fucking kidding me?! As soon as I leave she fucking...ah!"

I yell, wiping my face from the tears.

"Headache."

She mumbled.

I recoiled.

"Sorry."

She looked to Oak.

"What happened?"

I tensed up.

"You got shot."

Her eyes widened.

He nodded.

"First the wedding and now this? It doesn't make sense. There's a pattern. Something's going on here."

He looks at me, but Darren glared at him.

"I won't rest until I find out what happened love."

Darren went to get a nurse for her while I stood in shock and utter confusion.

Oak left too, having to go get the kids.

I stood in the middle of the room, staring at her.

She stared back.

There was a long silence.

"Are we just going to stare at each other?"

I wipe more tears off my face and sit in the chair beside her.

She pats my head like a dog.

I put my head in my hands.

"This is all my fault...I'm so sorry..."

I whisper, almost inaudible.

"Hm?"

She cocked her head.

I shook mine.

"Nothing..."

After a few minutes, she fell asleep, causing me to panic for a moment.

I squeezed her hand.

"I'm gonna fix it..."

I looked at the monitor connected to her heart.

"Just you wait..."
