Darren texts me a few minutes later as I'm getting food.
Darren- Mr. Hansen came by and gave Addie a card! He really is a good teacher!
I internally scream and start running.
A few minutes later, I trudge back into the hospital.
"Charlotte! The cops are here."
Darren takes my hand and pulls me to Addie's room.
I tense up, my breath quickening.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit!"
We paused at the door.
"Mr. And Mrs. Bara! We have some questions for you."
I tighten my grip on Darren without meaning to.
He looks at my face and nods to the man.
We sit in the seats.
Oak speaks up.
"With this and the wedding, i don't feel safe with her anymore. It's always Addie. I don't understand."
Darren notices my discomfort.
He sighs, taking my hand tighter.
"M-Maybe it's just New York. Things like this h-happen all the time. Maybe y-you're just unlucky."
Addie scoffs, rolling her eyes.
"Mrs. Bara do you need a minute?"
I nod.
The men leave, leaving Addie, Darren, Oak, and me in the room.
"Charlotte, what's wrong?"
I stand up, breaking the bond between Darren and I.
"Don't. Charlotte. You're going to lose everything you've worked for. Don't do this to yourself!"
I pace around the room, my hand on my stomach.
"Charlotte?"
I shake my head.
"What's wrong with you?"
I turn and glare at her.
"What's wrong with me?! You got shot, Addie! And it's all my fault!"
She shakes her head.
"No Charlotte it's not. Why would it be your fault?"
I continue pacing, muttering random things to myself.
Darren stands up.
"Charlotte, calm down..."
He moves to hug me, but I back away.
"Charlotte stop!"
My legs wobble, and I kneel.
"Get up! This is ridiculous!"
I hear Addie yell at Oak.
"Stop!"
She stops, everyone turning to look at me again.
"Just...listen..."
Addie held up her hand to stop me.
