My vision is blurry.

I wake up with a start.

It takes me exactly two seconds to figure out where I am.

I'm in the Richard Rodgers Theater.

On the stage.

With pillows around me and a blanket over me.

My mind goes to one thing.

One person.

Darren.

I immediately fall back down when I try to stand up.

"Morning."

A booming deep voice calls from across the stage.

"How's your nose?"

I jerk my head up.

"Oak?! What the hell?!"

He walks closer but I use the rest of the strength in my arms to scoot away.

"I saw you last night on my way back to my place. I didn't want to weird you out and take you to my apartment so I brought you here."

I hesitate.

"T-Thank you."

My head spun and the earth rotated under me.

"H-Help me up....please. I've got to get back home t-"

"To Darren."

He finishes my sentence.

"I know."

I put a hand on my head and go up onto my knees.

"Here."

He holds out one of his tree arms and helps me to my feet.

"You're not gonna hit me again are you?"

I joke.

He sighs and helps me down the stairs.

We manage to stumble to my apartment building.

I thank him at the door and open it with the key attached to my waistband.

Immediately as I walk in the door, a shadow jumps up from the couch and hurries over.

His eyes are desperate and tear-filled.

"I...I thought you left again."

I lost my balance and fell into him.

"Where were you?"

I slam onto my butt.

"Long story."

He hugged my neck, sinking to his knees to reach my sitting height.

"I won't leave you. I promise."

His grip tightens, but I remain stoic, holding him the same way he was holding me.

My eyes roam his bare arms from the Hamilton tank top he was wearing.

They stop in their tracks when they see red marks all the way from his elbow to his wrist.

I let go and lean forward enough to look at them closer.

His face burns red and I just shake my head and kiss his cheek.

"No more of this now."

I hold his hand and point to the scratches.

"I'm here. No more."

He looks down like a child in trouble.

My heart sinks.
