It took me the rest of the night and two more trips to Walmart to finish the blanket for Addie's baby.
She mentioned something about it being a
Boy.I curved my crochet hook through the white blue and grey yarn, pulling it through the last loop and tying it closed.
"Done!"
I said proudly.
They let Allison out a few hours later with a bandage on her eye and a brace on her knee.
I got back to my apartment in the early hours of the morning.
I put the blanket in a box and scribbled a note.
Addie,
I am slightly angry with you right now. You are aware of this. I hope everything is ok back home. I miss everyone. But you understand why I'm here right? I hope you understand. Remember when I made a blanket for your sibling's baby a few years ago? I made one for the new one. I saw on Instagram that you went to see Dear Evan Hansen. I hope you said hi to Ben for me. Enjoy the blanket. I wish you well for the future.
With love,
Charlotte.
I smile at the note and put it in the box with the blanket.
I slap a stamp on it and walk downstairs to put it in the mailbox.
The lady smiles at me.
I smile back and look out the window.
I smile.
For once in a bit, it's real.
