Day One
"Ok, we have eight days. What's the plan?"
I say, staring at my calendar, wishing we didn't have to do this.
Darren looked up from his coffee.
"I've never actually been to Weehawken. I thought maybe if I get back-"
I jerk my head around.
"When."
He pauses and swallows hard before continuing.
"I'll have more knowledge of the duel."
I nodded.
"Pack a backpack."
He nodded.

We sat quietly in the car.
Everything we say now will last until he gets back.
"I love you, D."
He sighs and takes one hand off the steering wheel to hold my hand.
"I love you too, C."
We get there in about two hours.
The box office lady handed us our tickets and we walked in the gates.
We saw a sign for the dueling grounds and followed it for about half a mile.
We both stared at the sign for the dueling grounds, neither of us really reading it.He stares at the scene before us.
The river and the city ahead of us, stretching as far as the eye can see.
