Chapter 3

Ms. Winston's POV

I walked into the classroom and my heart immediately skipped a beat. There in the front row was the girl from lunch and this morning. I don't know why but she just had this effect on me. I stood at the front of the room and smiled at the class.

"Hello class! I'm your new teacher. My name is Ms. Winston and I hope this year will be fun. I wanna start out by doing a little ice-breaker work sheet. I know you've done this a thousand times today, but I'm actually interested in my student's lives. I'll pass it out shortly."

I wasn't really that interested but that's what we're supposed to say. However, I was really interested in the girl's. This year seemed like it was going to be tough trying to get the student's attention, what with all the staring at my body and all, mostly the guys in the room. Other girls were staring with envy or something. I can't help that I'm hot.

After I passed the papers out, I went back to my desk and watched my students work. Well, mostly the girl, I have yet to know her name. She was sitting next to that boy again. If he proves to be a threat to our soon to be relationship, I'll have to get rid of him.

I know I sound crazy, maybe I am. When I went for marriage counseling, the therapist suggested that I might have an obsessive control problem and even suffer from delusions and paranoia. I didn't believe her of course.

Before I moved here, I lived in Maryland with my husband David. He made me go to marriage counseling with him because he thought I had serious issues. Of course I was reluctant, but when he threatened to leave me, that's when I knew I had to do it.

I was really just using him until I got enough money, then I would move away and leave that sorry excuse for a man. When the counseler diagnosed me after some time, he told me it was either take prescription meds for my problem or he would divorce me.

A week later, while he was fixing a ceiling light up on a ladder, I went to the garage and 'accidently' clicked a switch that shocked him and made him fall off. Long story short, he died of a broken neck and I convinced the police that it was an accident. I moved here to start a new life and leave that one behind.

When I was finished, I grabbed my paper and walked to Ms. Winston's desk.

"I'm finished," I said handing her my paper.

She looked up at me, smiled and took my paper.

"Thank you. I'll make sure to read this first." she said winking at me. I smiled back at her and went back to my seat.

"Joe," I whispered. He didn't hear me the first time. "Joe Joe Joe Joe Joe".

"What!" he half whispered half yelled.

"I may be imagining things but I think Ms. Winston is flirting with me."

"You're imagining things."

"Don't gaslight me bitch."

"You literally just said you were imagining things."

"What are you guys talking about," Jackie cut in.

"Oh nothing, just Kimberley thinking that Ms. Winston is in love with her."

I hit his arm. "Staaaaaaahhhppp, I do not. That's an exaggeration."

"Suuurree."

"C'mon just hurry up and finish so we can talk and stuff."

"Alright alright, I'm writing woman."

I turned in my seat and took out my phone, making sure to lower the screen and hide it so the teacher wouldn't see. About 3 minutes into playing coin dozer, a boy two seats behind me starting talking, really loud. I didn't notice what he was saying because I wasn't paying attention. I could've sworn I heard, "Oh my! Is that a phone? I didn't know those were allowed to be out in class."

I ignored that thinking it wasn't for me, but when Joe hit my arm, I looked up and there was Ms. Winston, holding her hand out for me to place my phone in.

"To be honest, I thought you knew better than to be on your phone. I hate to give detention on the first day, but you know the drill."

I made sure to lock my phone and turn it off before I gave it to her. Wouldn't want her looking through my stuff.

She took my phone and put it in her desk. I turned around to glare at the boy who had outed me. He smirked at me and waved. I didn't even know him that well but I could tell we wouldn't be friendly this year. I have detention now, with the teacher, whom I am trying to not like. Just great. I sighed and put my head down.
