Saved By A Gangster? Part 1

Moana's P.O.V

It was a cool night when I was walking home from work. Now working for my dad who is the C.E.O of the company, can either be very easy or very difficult. Tonight is a difficult night. I had to work late and when its nighttime in Chicago, it's dangerous. There are many shootings and gang activity. Now my car broke down and so, I'm walking home tonight.

As I leave the building, I quickly rush as fast as can in a skirt and heels. I hear dogs barking and car horns. Now the fastest way to my apartment is through a dark alley way. How ironic! I look down the alley and slowly make my way. So far, so good as I walk down slowly. Its very rare to walk in an alley without someone stopping you.

"Hey!" I hear. I freeze and turn around.

"Kūamuamu!" I curse under my breath. A tall man was walking towards me.

"I'd watch your language." Says another voice. I spin around and I come face to face a tall, dark and very muscular man. He was Polynesian like me. Raven long hair, chocolate brown eyes and has a lot of tattoo's. I gasp and back away.

"Back off runt, I saw her first!" Says the very tall one. He looks at me and signals me to get behind him. I do as he motions me to do and get behind his back.

"I'd watch your tongue Apu." He says to the man who is Apu. Apu just snarls at him.

"You won't be so lucky next Maui." Apu sneers. Then Apu walks away. Maui turns around and looks at me. He leans in close that our noses are touching. He just grunts and walks away. I stand in shock for a second and snap back into reality.

"Wait!" I call out. He turns around and looks at me.

"I just wanted to thank you! You saved my life." I say as I walk up in front of him. I look into his eyes and he snickers.

"Don't worry princess, I won't hurt you. Infact your lucky I was walking along here. Apu there doesn't like people in his territory." He says pulling away from my haze for a second. I look at him. Did he not hear me thank him?

"Names Maui, how bout you?" He asks. "M-moana." I manage to spit out. "Well Moana, you came from that building?" He asks nodding to Lalotai Dress Designs, I nod.

"My buddy, he works at the place. Tell Tamatoa, Maui said 'hi'." He says. I feel a shiver go down my spine. Tamatoa tried to take my Father's company a month ago. He was fired and so rose to become a huge gang banger. I slowly nod my head. He starts to walk away when he does something I wouldn't expect him to do. He grabs me hand with a gentle tug and kisses my forehead.

"You're welcome." He whispers in my ear. Then he releases me and walks away. I stand there and try to form words. 

"Will I ever see you again?" I call out. He looks at me and turns away. But I swear I saw him smile.

I rush home and when I reach my apartment I fumble with my keys.

"Having trouble?" I hear an angelic voice. I gasp and spin to come face to face with my coworker Te Fiti. Te Fiti is in college to become a nurse and the company is just a steady ground for her financial support. She's also a close family friend. I sigh in relief.

"Yes." I admit. She smiles and places her key in the keyhole. The door opens with a click and I smile.

"Thanks!" I say.

"Long day?" She asks as we step into the building.

"Yes." I say with a sigh.

"Something troubling you?" She asks.

"Well...I did have a interesting walk back here." I say.

"Wanna talk about it with a cup of tea?" She asks.

"That sounds wonderful." I say. We walk into Te Fiti's apartment and I sit on her couch.

"So what exactly happened on your way back?" I hear Te Fiti asks.

"I...ran into a guy." I say. It wasn't a lie but it wasn't the truth either.

"Alright what kind of guy?" She says as she walks over and hands me my tea. She sits across from me and starts to sip her tea.

"Well...I think he is an I dunno...a gangster?" I say. Te Fiti turns a shade lighter as she spits her tea out.
