Moana's P.O.V.
Maui and I watch the sunrise in silence. I feel Maui wrap his arm around my waist. I rest my head in his shoulder. I must have feel asleep because when I open my eyes, I look to see the outline of Te Fiti. I smile and look at Maui.
"I see her!" I say. He smiles and nods. After about an hour we reach the beach of Te Fiti. Maui pulls the boat up onto the shore and we look at one another. He grabs my hands and I face him. He stares at me deep in the eye and says nothing for a moment. His eyes say it all. They show curiosity, nervousness, and determination. I smile and squeeze his hands.
"You ready?" I ask.
"As ready as I'll ever be." He mumbles. I place a hand on his cheek. He looks at me and I rest my forehead on his.
"Whatever happens, I'll always be by your side." I say. I smile and Maui smiles back. He chuckles and sighs happily. He pulls me closer and I find myself being pulled into a hug. I hug Maui and I feel him hold me tight. I smile into his shoulder and we pull away a few moments after. We then walk up a path and a few minutes later we come to the resting face of Te Fiti.
"How do we wake her up?" I ask Maui quietly. He looks at her and takes a deep breath.
"Te Fiti. We need to talk." Maui says loud and firmly. Te Fiti slowly starts to shake and she awakes. She rises and smiles. She places her hand on the ground and we walk on top her hand. She slowly raises her hand and we meet her face. I smile and bow.
"Hello Te Fiti!" I say. She smiles sweetly and Maui looks at her.
"We have come to you with a problem!" Maui says. She looks at him.
"My powers have been acting up. When I am in a transformation I'll suddenly turn back into my human form. Sometimes my hook won't work and I am starting to actually bleed! I'm also having this same vision or nightmare every night. Please help me! Please tell me what's going on!" Maui begs. Te Fiti gives him a look and Maui looks at me. He then shakes his head.
"No I haven't! Were you being serious about that?" Maui asks. I look at him confused.
"Haven't what?" I ask. Maui looks at Te Fiti with a discontent look. Te Fiti nods at him and he sighs.
"And there's no other way?" He asks. Te Fiti shakes her head. He sighs heavily and looks at me.
"Maui what aren't you telling me?" I ask. He rubs the back of his neck and shifts from foot to foot.
"About three years ago I did a task for Te Fiti. When I returned to her she showed me something. It had to do with my powers. I didn't think much of it. But before I do or say anything else, there is something I want to know!" Maui says.
"What's that?" I ask. Maui looks at Te Fiti with a firm look.
"I want to know what happened that night when I got this!" Maui says as he lifts his hair pointing to the tattoo of his mother tossing him into the sea. My eyes grow wide and I look at Maui.
"Maui what if you don't want to know?!" I ask hurriedly. His eyes grow hard.
"I don't care! For over three thousand years I spent wondering why my parents didn't want me! I deserve a damn explanation!" He says. I look at Te Fiti. She smiles sadly and a blue glowing orb appears. Maui and I look in and the orb clears as a vision appears.
Third Person
Late at night a couple are arguing about a newborn child. The baby was asleep in a basket unaware of the fate he awaits.
"We have to get rid of him!" The man's voice says.
"What?!" The woman's voice replies.
"He's already infected, so we have to get rid of him." The man says as he points to the baby in the basket.
"He's our son! We just can't get rid of him!" The woman says.
"You know about the illness that is spreading! It's already killing him! You know we are next to die if we keep him any longer!" The man says sternly.
"Then let us leave! Sail away and find a new island! Find a cure and start our family like we always dreamed of!" The woman insists. The man shakes his head. He grabs the woman's hands and rest his forehead on hers.
"You know we can't do that. Besides, this is the only way he'll be in no pain. That's what we want right?" The man says sadly. The woman has tears escape her eyes. The man wipes her face dry. The couple grab the basket and walk out into the night. They walk to the beach and the woman picks up the baby. The baby is fast asleep. As she walks into the water, she looks at her husband and he nods. She looks at her baby once again and a sob escapes her.
"I'm so...so sorry." She sobs as she places a kiss on the top of his head. She then tosses the child into the sea. As the child is tossed he awakes and starts to cry. He then hits the cold Pacific ocean with a splash.
Moana's P.O.V.
The vision blurs and then the orb disappears. I look over at Maui. His whole body is shaking and his face is pale.
"Maui?" I say very concerned. As I reach towards him, he falls to his knees and starts to sob. I quickly lower myself and hold him close.
"It was me in the basket! I saw myself! I was supposed to die! I was supposed to die!" He howls. I flinch at the sound. I rub his shoulders in a comforting matter. He continues to sob and I hold him close, hushing and consoling him. He slowly starts to calm down. He then raises his head and rests his forehead on mine. His eyes meet mine and I look over his face. His eyes are puff and his cheeks are flushed. His lips are slightly trembling and a few beads of sweat run down his face.
I smile a warm and loving smile. I place my hand on his cheek and wipe the tears away. I run my thumb over his lips and they stop trembling. I move my hand to his cheek and rub it softly. We sit in silence for a few minutes.
"What did Te Fiti show you three years ago?" I ask softly. Maui exhales heavily and closes his eyes.
"She showed me that I would slowly lose my powers when my tasks and duties of being a demigod are done. The only way that I would able to stay as a demigod is if I love someone and they return the feelings. If they don't, then I become a mortal. If they do return the feelings, it is up to me to decide if I want to stay a demigod or lose all my powers for love." He says quietly as he slowly opens his eyes. I process everything Maui told me and what he was talking about previously. I put two and two together and my eyes grow wide.
"Maui...are you saying what I think your saying?" I ask. He takes a deep breath and avoids my eyes.
"Yes Moana... I'm saying that I love you." He says quietly. I feel my heart soar and I smile. I place my hand on his cheek and his eyes slowly meet mine.
"I love you too." I say softly. His eyes grow wide and I giggle softly. He smiles widely and he pulls me into a hug. I hug him tightly. We pull back a few moments later. We look at Te Fiti and she smiles. Two orbs appear with two different visions. One shows Maui flying across the sea as a giant hawk. The other shows Maui on an island looking much older.
"It looks like you have to make a decision." I say. He looks at me for a moment, then up at Te Fiti. He reaches for the orb with him looking quite aged. The orb dissolves and the other disappears. Maui's hook slowly turns into flower pedals and he looks at me. He grabs my hands and looks at me deep in the eyes.
"I'd rather live the rest of my life knowing that I am loved by the one I love than being haunted for the rest of eternity knowing someone loved me back. I also would rather make peace with my past as I grow older then fume about it for the rest of time." He says softly. I smile and wrap my arms around his neck. His face meets mine and our lips softly brush against one another's. I feel a smile grow as I kiss Maui softly. We pull back and look at Te Fiti.
"Thank you for your help Te Fiti." Maui says. She smiles and nods. She then lowers us back down to the ground. We walk off and she lies back down for sleep. I look at him and smile.
"Let's go home." I say. He grabs my hand and smiles.
"Yeah. Let's go home." He says with a smile. We walk back to the canoe and sail back home.
