The Suitors Part 1

Moana's P.O.V

A year later from my adventure with Maui, my mother and father wanted to talk to me. So as I walk over to the hut of the elders, I hear my name.

"Moana!" Says an unfamiliar voice.

"Huh?" I say. A guy that looks a year older than me comes jogging up to me.

"May I help you?" I ask. He grabs my hand.

"Yes! I would like to ask for-" He starts. Then another unfamiliar voice pops in.

"Hey! That's cheating!" Says another guy who looks a little younger than me. He grabs my hand from the other guy and I'm face to face with him.

"Pick me instead." The guy smiles.

"No! She's going to pick me!" Says a third voice. He is definitely the oldest out of the three. I feel my head start to spin when suddenly

"Will you knuckleheads knock it off and give the girl some space?!" Says a voice I know perfectly well. Maui pushes the three strangers away from me.

"Thanks." I say. He only nods as he places a hand on my back and we walk away. "Maui what's going on?!" I ask.

"Just keep walking." He whispers.

"Huh? Why?!" I ask. "Their bad news!" He says. We walk into the hut of the elders and my father greets us.

"Thank you Maui! If you please?" He asked.

"Of course sir." Maui says as he leaves us alone. My father looks at me and smiles.

"Now Moana, since your older and becoming chief, its time to choose a suitor." He says.

"A suitor?!" I exclaim. Then I hear shouting. I turn around and the three men frim earlier are pushed in and fall to the ground. They look up and stand up dusting themselves off. Then Maui walks in wiping his hands. "Wait a minute...I have to choose from these three?!" I ask as I point a finger at the trio.

"Please! Princess let me introduce us!" Says the oldest.

"She's not a princess!" Maui snaps at him. I look at him and he looks back at me. I feel myself smile.

"Sorry." He murmers as he leaves the hut.

"Anyways, I am Iokepa, the oldest and wisest of the three. On my left is my baby brother Ioane. And on my right is my younger brother, Iokua." He says gesturing to Ioane and Iokua.

"Hi! Um I am the youngest and the most compassionate out of the three." He says shyly.

"And I am Iokua, the middle child but the strongest out of the three." He says proudly.

"Well Moana? Who will you court?" My father asks me.

"I uh...well I choose uh..." I start. I look at the three who are waiting for my answer and back at my parents. I feel the room start to spin.

"I...I need some air." I finally say. I rush outside and I feel someone grab my hand.

"Woah! Slow down!" Maui says. I look at him and he looks at me sadly.

"Come on." He says as he pulls me gently and I follow. We walk to our secret spot and Maui sits down.

"Why do I have to get married?! I mean, I'm only 17!" I start.

"Well, its just a courtship, and they don't last long." Maui starts.

"MAUI! I DONT WANT TO DATE ONE OF THOSE THREE...BIMBO'S AND THEN MAKE THEM MY HUSBAND!!!" I shout. He looks at me and I'm surprised he doesn't fall over laughing.

He stands up and walks over to me.

"You don't need to cry...it really isn't the best feature for a beautiful person like you." He says ask he wipes my tears away.

"You think...that I'm beautiful?" I ask with a sniffle. He smiles sadly.

"I really do." He murmers. I smile and let out a half sob/half laugh. He chuckles softly. Then I realize our closeness.

"I uh...I guess I have to tell them my answer." I say moving a little closer.

"Yeah..." Maui replies as he leans in. I feel myself want to move closer.

"I uh...I have to go." I say pushing myself away from Maui. I start to walk out and Maui grabs my hand.

"Wait!" He says. I look at him.

"Yes?" I ask.

"I uh...just follow your heart." He says as he gives my hand a gentle squeeze.

I walk over to him and plant a peck on his cheek and run out of hiding spot. I notice that it is dark and I rush towards the hut of the elders. Then I collide with someone.

"Oh! I'm sorry!" Says Iokepa.

"Oh no! It was my fault! Is my father and your other brothers in there?" I ask nodding towards the hut.

"Oh! Yes! Yes they are." He says. "Well come on. I have made my choice." I say. He nods and we walk inside.

"Moana!" My father says. "I have made my decision." I say. I turn around and face the three suitors. They look at me intensely.

"I choose-" I start to say but I'm interrupted by someone speaking.

"I want to court your daughter...if I may!" Says a voice. I look and see...
