Song is Happier by Madilyn Bailey

Moana's P.O.V.

Maui looks at me horrified and I give him a sympathetic look. His horror turns to anger and he looks away.

"Maui?" I say.

"I- this can't be happening!" He says softly.

"What can't?" I ask him. He looks up at me with anger and grief. I feel my heart twinge.

"This! Me becoming a mortal! I've always been Maui, demigod of the wind and sea, hero to all! Not just Maui the mortal!" He says exasperated.

"But being a mortal doesn't mean you're not a hero anymore!" I say with hope.

"Moana, don't you get it?! I became like this because I was unwanted as a MORTAL! My mortal parents threw me into the sea and left me to die!" He says angrily. His face starts to harden and the spark of rage ignites in his eyes. I stare at him scared as the rage grows. He must of noticed because his faces softens and the anguish replaces the rage.

"W-what happened to you exactly?" I ask. He sighs and rubs his face. He looks away for a moment and then returns his attention.

"I was born over three thousand years ago. My parents...they didn't want me. Called me a mistake. They decided to cast me into the sea and leaved me to drown. As I sank, I was encountered by my Aumakua; a sea turtle. It saved me and brought me to the shore of Te Fiti. She saw what happened and took me to the bottom of the sea. All the other gods and goddesses surrounded. They all saw what happened to me only by looking into my eyes and decided there to give me my gifts. As I grew I slowly saw what my purpose was. To help the mortals the human world.".

"I fought great battles and performed multiple difficult tasks. But for whatever I accomplish, it was not enough to please the mortals. That's when I decided take Te Fiti's heart. I was casted away onto that island and that's how we met. When we restored the heart I remembered what my purpose was once more and I finally have been accepted. And now, here we are." He says sadly. I frown and watch the anguish grow in his eyes.

"What makes you think that you'll won't be accepted if you are not a demigod?" I ask. He looks at me.

"Well, I wasn't accepted as a mortal before, why would I be accepted now?" He asks harshly. I look away and frown.

"Moana I-I'm sorry." He says. I turn to him and he gives me a shameful and apologetic look. I slowly smile and place my hand on his shoulder.

"I get it. Your scared and you don't have the solution of your problem an- wait! That's it!" I started but slowly started to smile. Maui looks at me confused.

"What's it?" He asks. I smile.

"Maui, what do you do when you have a problem?" I ask excitedly.

"I solve it?" He says questionably.

"But how?" I ask eagerly.

"With my brain?" He says.

"But what if its more difficult for your mind to solve!?" I ask.

"Moana, what are you getting at?" He asks. I smile wide and brightly.

"You ready for another adventure?" I ask. He looks at with a smile.

"Where to?" He asks with a grin. I smile as the adventurous thrill runs through my veins.

"Te Fiti!" I say. He smiles wide and brightly.

"Let's get ready!" He says as he stands up. I smile and get up as well. I put the cream away and look at Maui. He stands up and I walk over to him. I reach for him and he looks at me.

"I just need to tie your bandage so it stays on." I say. He nods and I grab the loose ends. I tie them together and Maui looks at me.

"Thanks." He says. I nod. We walk out of the hut and I go to the hut of elders.

"Wait out here. I need to tell them I'm leaving!" I say. Maui nods and I walk in. I look to see my parents, some older village members and my advisors, including Tane.

"Moana!" My parents say happily. I smile and walk up. I hug my mother and father.

"Dad, I have to..." I start but I find myself struggling to finish.

"We know. We have all talked and Tane here explained what happened. He said that you need to go. We all have discussed and decide to leave Tane in charge as you are gone." My father explains. I look at Tane surprised and he smiles a guilty smile. I roll my eyes and return my attention to my father. I hug him tightly and I do the same with my mother. I look at Tane and he stands up.

"Moana could we talk?" He says. I nod and walk out the hut. Tane follows me and we walk down to the new dock where our canoes are held.

"Moana I only offered because I help you and know your duties!" He says. I look at him.

"I wouldn't have anyone else do the task because my father can barely walk anymore and your most knowledgeable. I'm only mad because you didn't talk to me first." I say. He looks at me sadly.

"I'm sorry Moana...I just wanted to impress you." He says.

"Tane, you know that nothing will happen. Besides, you well know who I have interest in." I say. He nods and I place my hand on his shoulder. He looks at me and I smile. He smiles back and I pat his back.

"Please take care of them." I say nodding to my parents.

"Will do Chief." He says. I smile and walk back to Maui.

"Come on! Let's go get supplies and pack up." I say. He nods and we walk to the storage hut. We grab blankets, fruits, pork, coconut, and more bandages. We walk to the port and load up the canoe. I walk to the center to my village. Everyone gathers around and I smile. Maui stands in the back and smiles.

"As you may know, the demigod Maui has come to our island and is in need of help! He and I shall travel across the sea once again and seek help from the goddess Te Fiti herself! I have put Tane in charge and my father will be available as well! I shall be back and then continue my duties! Thank you!" I say. Everyone disbands and I walk up to Maui.

"Ready?" He asks. I nod. We walk to the canoe and I hop on. Maui pushes us off and then hops on. I row and by an hour we pass the reef. I smile and climb up the mast. I feel the warm breeze hit my face and I sigh.

"When's the last time you've been out here?" I hear Maui ask. I look at him and smile.

"Its been almost three months since I've been out here." I say.

"Why's that?" He asks.

"My duties are important and my people always come first. My wants come next to my people's needs. I do sometimes travel but ever since my father started having issues walking, I've always stayed behind." I explain. Maui nods. Nightfall slowly arrives and I look at Maui.

"I'll take first watch." He says.

"You don't have to do that." I say. He smiles.

"Not a problem." He says. I yawn and nod. I grab a blanket out of the storage compartment and lie down. Sleep comes and I fall into a deep sleep.
