Maui's P.O.V
Music. It's what I grew up in my house hold. In fact my grandfather played his guitar to my grandmother and that's how they started to date. Then they got married, had kids. But I know that falling in love at a young age is nothing but found cute by our parents. But when I was five years old, I fell in love. And I still am in love to the same very girl to this day! Only problem is, that she is in an arranged marriage. But I think deep down, she loves me back too! I remember her seeing her for the first time like it was yesterday.
I was playing my guitar in the middle of town. It was just a few chords but I add more notes and was playing a song of my own. Then I saw her. She was waiting outside a store. We made eye contact and I looked away. I went back to playing and then I heard footsteps. As I looked up it was the same girl. She smiled at me. I stopped playing and smile back. "Hi!" She says.
"H-hi!" I say shyly. Then a man comes out of the shop.
"O Hilo! You are not allowed to talk with this! This...Kanaka! Come!" He says.
"Bye." She says with a sad wave. I wave back and she disappears.
That was many years ago. But now! I'm an adult. And when I arrive from work, this is my typical night.
"Why?! Why on God's green Earth do you have to fall in love with the Mayor's daughter?!" My father shouts. I let out a sigh.
"Because dad. I just did. I feel special when I see her!" I say. He groans and walks off. My mom would look at me and smile.
"He just had a bad day." She says. I nod. My grandma sits by the window knitting.
"Hey grandma." I say.
"Hi Maui." She says not looking up from her work. I sigh and look at my mother.
"Go." She says. I smile and peck her cheek. I grab my guitar and rush out. I hear my buddy Tom rush out.
"Hey man! Where you going?" He asks.
"Town." I say. His eyes light up and he rushes back to grab a guitar also. We rush out and into the center of town. Then Tom sets a hat upside down and whistles very loudly. Everyone looks at us. We smile and start to play music. Everyone loves dancing along. We would play many tunes. Spanish, country, anything that a guitar could play. Then after a while Tom leaves.
"We'll spilt it later." He says as he motions to the money.
I sigh and play a nice slow song. Nothing romantic but something relaxing. I hear a bell of a store ring. I look up and I'm shocked. Its her! The girl that I love. She looks at a woman who seems to be her mother. Her mother walks in a store and she sits and waits. I smile and decide to play a tune. Something upbeat like dancing music. I smile and watch her perk up. She looks around and I play a little louder. She walks towards me and I smile. I play a little louder and then the footsteps are close. I look up and see that the girl is smiling. She opens her mouth but a child tugs at her skirt.
"Will you dance with me?" The child asks. She smiles and picks the child up. She starts to swing and sway and dance in circles.
She and the child laughs as they have fun. I slowly come to an end and stand up. She must of notice because she sets the child down.
"Hello." I say.
"Hello." She says. I hold out a hand.
"I'm Maui." I say. She holds out a hand and I shake it.
"I'm-" She starts.
"MOANA!" I hear. We both jump. I turn around and see a man. It is the Mayor. She looks at him.
