Moana was sitting on the foot of her bed as tears fell down her face. In her hand was a picture. A special picture. It was her and Maui. It was their first date. Maui took her hiking and she climbed on his back. He was laughing as she was kissing his cheek. She smiled sadly at the photo as she rubbed her thumb across Maui's face. It was their 11 month anniversary today. Maui had some news for her. She thought this would be the night Maui proposed to her! Maui had taken her to dinner but things went bad a little bit after. It played through her head clearly.

Flashback

"Ok! I got a job offer!" Maui said excitedly.

"Maui! That's great!" She said happily. It wasn't the news she was hoping for. Maui's face fell slowly and Moana soon grew worried.

"Maui?" She said.

"The job is in New Zealand." He said softly.

"Oh..." She said. Maui looked at Moana and grabbed her hands. He ran his thumbs over her knuckles.

"I want you to come with me." He said with a tiny spark of hope in his eyes.

"What? Moana said.

"Come with me! To New Zealand!" Maui said.

"Maui, I just can't drop everything and run off! I have my job and family." She said in a small defense. Maui eyebrows furrowed and he frowned.

"Moana, I gave up my dream job to stay here with you! Why can't you do something for me?" Maui said and asked.

"Excuse me?! I told you to take the offer. I didn't force you to stay. Besides I thought you had other news." Moana said hurt.

"No! That's not what I meant! And what other news." Maui said.

"I thought you were going to propose." Moana said softly.

"Propose?" Maui said confused.

"Yes? We've been together for 11 months today. This is why we're having dinner." Moana said folding her arms across her chest. 

"Yes I know but I just thought the job would make you excited!" Maui said painfully.

"And do you think I wouldn't if you were to ask me to marry you?" Moana said incredulously.

"That's not what I meant!" Maui said.

"No! You know what! That's exactly what you meant. I have to stay because I have my family here. I didn't mean to be a burden. In fact! Goodnight Maui. Take the damn job!" Moana said as she stood up and walked out the door.

"Moana!" Maui called after her. Moana just stomped angrily out of the restaurant and into her car. She drove home and slammed the door shut. She pushed her heels off.

Moana soon felt a sob escape her to her surprise. She pictured Maui in the airport waiting to board. Tears rolled onto the photo. She fell back onto her her bed and held the photo close to her chest.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Moana shot up. She walked out of her bedroom and down the hall. She rushed down the steps and walked to the door. She slowly opened the door and Maui stood in the door.

"Maui." She breathed. Maui looked at her.

"Can I come in?" He asked. Moana opened the door wider.

"Uh yeah. Come on in." She said. Maui stepped inside and closed the door behind him.

"Moana I-" He started but Moana held a hand up.

"Before you say something, I need to say that I'm sorry. I overreacted at dinner. I was rude and a real jerk. I'm sorry." She said.

"You shouldn't apologize. I should. I can't expect you to drop everything to go on the other side of planet with me. For that I am sorry." Maui said as he looked down at the ground.

"Maui I forgive you." Moana said. Maui made eye contact with Moana and took a step towards her. He walked up to her and grabbed her hand.

"Moana you also made me realize something else." Maui said. He got on one knee and Moana gasped.

"Maui." She whispered. Maui had a box in his free hand and he looked up at Moana.

"Moana you changed my life every since our first date. I come to realize that I was lucky to get a sweet, beautiful, and caring woman like you. So I need to ask you right here and right now. Moana Waialiki, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" Maui asked as he opened the box revealing a beautiful diamond ring.

Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks. She nodded her head. Maui smiled as he slipped the ring onto her finger. He stood up and cupped her face gently. Moana smiled and planted her lips on Maui's. When they pulled back moana wrapped her arms around Maui's neck and smiled.
