Maui's P.O.V.

Hello! The names Maui Demin. I'm a sophomore at Oahu High School. I play football as the quarterback. I'm 16 years old and hoping to become a professional swimmer and make it to the Olympics. My Dad is the coach here at the high school. My Mom is a Navel Intelligence Officer for the Navy. My dad was in the Army for six years until her retired. I'm a straight A student and I hope my grades stay the way they are.

Its the second week of school and I'm settling in to the school.
I'm walking to my locker when I hear something.

"Hey! Come on toots!" I hear Tamatoa say. My curiosity gets the best of me. I look around the corner and I see Tamatoa, Juan, and Joaquin cornering a girl. She looks pretty scared. I recognize her from all of my classes.

"Please leave me alone Tom." I hear her whimper.

"What's going on here?" I ask.

"We're picking on the freshman. Not too badly though." Says Juan. I put my bag on the floor and push the three away. When I meet the girl she trembles.

"Please don't hurt me!" She whispers. I smile and look at the three. They back away and I return my attention back to the girl.

"You alright? Did they hurt you?" I ask. I see a piece of chewed up gum in her hair and her books on the floor but nothing too serious. She trembles beneath me.

"Hey its alright. I won't hurt you." I say softly. She stops trembling and looks at me in the eye. I smile and stick out my hand.

"Hi. I'm Maui!" I say. She blushes and takes my hand. I shake her hand.

"Come here for a moment." I say. She follows me into the bathroom.

"Listen, I'm so sorry what happened to you back there. But I'm glad I stopped them before they did something stupid back there." I say as I carefully pull the gum out of her hair.

"Why are you helping me? Most people just ignore me." She asks me softly. I look at her and smile.

"Because of three reasons. First off, those boys back there are going to do extra push ups. Second, you needed help. Third and foremost, it looked like you needed a friend. Speaking of which I didn't get your name back there." I say.

"I'm Moana." She says softly.

"Moana...Beautiful name for a beautiful girl." I say. She blushes really hard and I smile. She blushes a lot. I think its cute. She's cute! Her big whiskey brown eyes meet mine and I feel my heart skip a beat.

"W-what did you just say?" She asks me.

"I said a beautiful name for a beautiful girl." I repeat. She smiles and looks down at the floor.

"There! All done!" I say throwing the last piece of gum in the trash. She looks up at me and smiles.

"Thank you. You are the first person ever to stick up for me." She says shyly. I smile sadly at her.

"That's too bad. Some people are jerks. And I don't get why people would ignore or pick on a pretty girl like you." I say. She looks up at me and blushes once more.

"You think I'm pretty?" She asks me. I chuckle and nod my head.

"Yep. And I'll remind you every day if I have too." I say. She smiles and I hold the door open for her. She walks out and I walk out after her.

"Hey, if your not busy after school I'd be happy if you came to my football game tonight." She nods her head and I chuckle.

"I'll get you front row seats." I say. She smiles.

"I'll be looking forward to see you play." She says. I smile.

"Me too.".

"Hey Maui?" She says.

"Yes?" I say and ask. She grabs her bag and pecks me on the cheek.

"Thank you." She says as she walks out of the school. I stand there for a moment awestruck and then smile as I turn a little pink.

"You're welcome." I say to no one. I grab my bag and gear and head out to the field.
