A Single Red Rose

Moana's P.O.V.

I wake up and smile. Today is my 20th birthday. I'm also super happy because Maui is coming back from a mission today. He's doesn't know but I kinda sorta like him more than as a friend. I stretch and change. I put on a blue top but wear my favorite tan skirt. I walk out and I'm greeted by my parents.

"Hauʻoli lā hānau Moana!" My parents shout at the same time. I smile and laugh as my dad picks me up and spins me around.

"Is Maui back yet?" I ask. My parents shake their heads no and my smile slowly fades. "Oh..." I say. Mom walks over to me and hugs me gently.

"Don't worry about him. For now we need to get you ready for your luau."" My frown grows into a grin and we walk down to the village. I see flowers and lanterns for the luau tonight.

"There's the birthday girl!" Says Akani. Akani is my best friend and is like a brother to me.

"Akani!" I run up to him and give him a big hug. He laughs a hardy laugh and we pull back.

"So, your turning twenty." He say crossing his arms across his chest.

"Yep!" I say with a grin.

"Gods you make me feel old!" He jokes. I laugh and soon someone catches my eye. I smile.

"Akani...don't look now but I think Meko is staring at you. He turns his head and smiles like a dork. Meko is the girl that Akani likes. But I know Meko likes Akani back.

"You should go talk to her." I whisper to him. He looks at me and I nod my head. He smiles and stands up straight. He walks over to her and I hear giggling and see a lot of blushing. Then Akani walks back over to me.

"I got a date!" He says. I smile and give him a high five. I look at Meko and walk up over to her.

"Hi Meko!" I say.

"Oh! Hi Moana! Happy birthday!" She says in her bubbly voice.

"I heard you got a date." I say. She giggles and turns a little pink. She looks at Akani and he waves at her. She waves back and looks at me.

"What can I do for you?" She asks. I smile.

"Make sure that you have a good time with Akani. He's a sweet guy." I say.

She nods her head and I smile. I leave and walk to the beach. I stay at the beach until the luau starts. I walk up and everyone gives me flower crowns. We all sit to eat and I stand.

"Thank you for coming to my birthday! You are my Ohana! So now, let us celebrate!" I say. Everyone smiles and claps. We all eat delicious food along with singing and dancing.

I get up and quietly sneak away. I walk to the beach and sit on Maui's favorite thinking rock. I smile as I remember that one time I tried sitting in this rock.

Flashback...

"Hey!" I say. Maui just grunts. I poke him.

"What'cha want Curly?" He asks. I smile and jump up on the rock.

"Oh no you don't! This is MY thinking rock. Shoo go find your own." He says pushing me off lightly. I sigh and walk away.

"You know, thats still MY thinking rock that your sitting on." Says a familiar voice. I punch towards the sound and collide with a hard chest.

"Jeez louise Curly! Its just me." I turn my head around and come face to face with Maui.

"Hi." He says blinking for a long exaggerating second. I blink then smile.

"You made it!" I say excitedly as I jump off the rock and jump up into his arms. He smiles and hugs me back. We pull back after a minute.

"Hauʻoli lā hānau, Moana." He says.

"You remembered!" I say. He nods.

"Oh! I got you a gift!" He says. I smile and he hands me a plant. I never seen one like it before. Its red and has green leaves. It also has a few thorns. I never seen one on Montunui.

"What is it?" I ask. He smiles wider.

"Its called a rose. Its a flower. Yellow means friendship, white means I'm sorry, pink means beauty." He explains.

"And what does red mean?" I ask. Maui blushes and takes a step forward.

"Red means, I love you. And I love you Moana." He whispers in my ear. I grow redder than my rose and when Maui stands up straight I do something that both of us weren't expecting. I jump up and plant my lips on his. When I pulled back I blushed.

"I love you too, Maui." I say shyly.

He smiles and takes my rose and puts in my hair. He grabs my waist and I smile. We rest our foreheads on each others. I look at him and he smiles. I smile back and he closes his eyes. I do the same and our lips meet once again. I wrap my arms around his neck and he holds my waist. We stand holding one another for a minute and then we pull back. I smile and he smiles back.

"Come on, let's head back to the party." He says grabbing my hand. I nod my head and we walk back together hand in hand. We enter the luau and danced and sang until everyone grew tired. Maui and I walk back to my hut. I turn and face him.

"Where you going to sleep?" I ask. He just shrugs.

"In a tree I guess." He says. I take his hand lead him into my hut. I shut the door and lead him to a tapa mat.

"You can sleep here." I say. He looks at me.

"Where are you going to sleep?" He asks. I force him to sit down and sit in his lap.

"Right. Here." I say as I lay my head in the crook of his neck. He chuckles his deep throaty chuckle that I love.

"I love you, Maui." I say into his ear. He lays down and wraps a blanket over the two of us.

"I love you too, Moana." He says. I snuggle into his side and we fall asleep.
