One Shots: Maui x Moana

Lionized Part 3

Moana's P.O.V.

Maui and I have become close as Kovu and Kiara have over the past few weeks. Well maybe not as close. But we do have a special bond. The more we bond, the better we get to know one another. I'm happy because I'm starting to develop real genuine feelings for Maui.

The Prince and Princess are walking together, tails interlocked with on another's. I look at Maui and see him smiling. I smile. Kovu and Kiara ran ahead to the watering hole as Maui and I trail along lazily.

"Hey Maui?" I ask. He looks at me.

"Yes?" He asks.

"Whatever happened to make this lion from your pride go rogue." I ask. Maui sighs and we lay on the bank of the watering hole.

"Its a long story." He says. I scoot closer to him and he chuckles. He looks at the water for a moment and he looks at me.

"You see, a long time ago there was a male lion. His name was Mabaya. He was King Jabari's first in command. My father was second. Mabaya was a great leader. His Majesty trusted him and loved him like a brother. He was brave and strong. Everyone looked up to him. But our healer Baba saw great darkness in him. She said that Mabaya would soon be driven mad for power."

"His Majesty couldn't believe what he had heard. He didn't believe her until that one night. My father came back. He was injured and explained that Mabaya attacked him. His Majesty then finally believed Baba's warning. Mabaya came back to our pride saying we need more land. But we have an equal share with the Southern Lands which is mostly jungle. His Majesty told him no and Mabaya grew furious."

"Mabaya then challenged His Majesty to a duel for the position of King. The two went outside the den and started to battle. The King fought heroically. After two long and brutal hours of fighting, Jabari told Mabaya to stand down. Mabaya did and he was banished. His Majesty stood his ground and died heroic death." Says Maui.

I nod my head and take it all in. Then I realize something.

"Maui, you do know Mabaya's name means 'monster' right?" I say and ask. He looks at me and slowly nods his head yes.

"And your dad? What happened to him?" I ask.

"My father lost his sight in one eye and died a few years later." He says quietly lowering his head.

I look at Maui and see something I thought I would never see him do. He's crying. I lick his tears and nudge my muzzle to his cheek. He sniffles and nudges me back.

"It's alright to miss someone. Especially someone you love." I whisper. He sighs and I feel him pull back. I look at him and he wipes his paw across his face.

"Thanks Moana." He says calmly. "Anytime." I say.

We turn our attention to Kiara and Kovu. They are soaking wet. We laugh and the come up on shore.

"I'm getting hungry." Says Kovu.

"Thats weird. Mom, Grandma, and Sina should be out hunting by now." Says Kiara.

"RRRROOOOAAAARRRR!!!".

"That sounded like father!" Says Kiara.

"RRROOOAAARRR!!!".

"It can't be!" Says Kovu look at Maui.

"Who?" I ask.

"Trouble." Growls Maui.

"Who?" Asks Kiara.

"No time to explain!" Kovu says hurriedly.

"Come on!" Says Maui. We all rush to the scene. I see a male rogue all alone and the rest of the pride backing up Simba. We walk in and join the pride.

"What are YOU doing here?!" Growls Nea.

"Hello Nea. Its been a long time." Says the rogue. He sounds like a snake taunting its prey.

"Not long enough." She replies harshly.

"You are not welcomed here." Says Simba coldly.

"I mean no trouble. I'm only passing through." He says calmly. Kovu snarls at the rogue.

"So this is what the little lion cub grew up to be!" Says the rogue intrigued.

"Back off!" Says Kiara. He looks at him and smirks.

"I gotta say, Jabari did a pretty fine job." He says.

"YOU SHALL NEVER SPEAK OF MY FATHER'S NAME! YOU BETRAYED US AND KILLED HIM! YOU'RE A MONSTER!" Kovu says with his voice full of rage and fury. Thats when realization hits me.

"Mabaya...You're Mabaya, aren't you?!" I ask.

"That I am, my dear." He says with a crooked smile. Maui growls a threatening low growl.

"Maui...is that you?! You've grown so much. Why, you have your father's eyes!" He says.

"Leave! NOW!" He snarls.

"Why thats no welcome for your dear old uncle now is it?" He asks slyly.

"I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU ANYMORE!" He snaps coldly and he runs away.

"You have over stayed your welcome. Now leave my lands!" Commands Simba. Mabaya turns his attention to Simba.

"As you wish, your Majesty. I was just leaving." He says calmly. He walks around and we watch him leave.

"Maui!" I say to myself. I think real hard and go to the one place I bet where he is.
