Maui's P.O.V

The next morning as I wake up I feel sad and depressed. As I walk down the hall I hear my father talking.

"I heard that a strange man in uniform came to town last night!" He says. I sigh and head out. I head to town and sit on my bench. The whole town comes out.

"Could I have everyone's attention please!" I say. Everyone looks at me curiously.

"Instead of this Saturday, Friday will be the engagement party for the Mayor's daughter!" I say. Everyone murmers! "Please grab your best clothes and head to Mayor's house at 7:30! Nothing has changed except for the day! Now! Who wants to dance?" I shout happily.

Everyone cheers and Tom rushes up. We look at one another and play a mix of Mambo, Salsa, and Tango music. We play deep into the night. But during the whole day, my mind was on Moana. I sit at the bench once again late at night. I sigh and look at Moana's house. She walks out to her balcony. Then she jumps to the lamp post. She slides down and runs towards me.

"Moana! What are you doing?" I ask. She catches her breath and smiles.

"I had to get away." She says.

"Why did you come here?" I ask.

"I want my next lesson." She says. I smile and she sits next to me.

"Could you play me something? Something more happy this time?" She asks. I look up at the stars and smile.

I tune my guitar and clear my throat. I strum my strings in a country like manner. Then I start to sign along.

You know my old car needs washing
And the front yard needs a trim
And the telephone keeps ringing
And the boss man knows I know it's him
And the bills ain't gonna pay themselves
No matter anyway
'Cause I ain't in no hurry today

There's nothing wrong with an old cane fishing pole
And the smell of early spring
Sit down in a fold-up easy chair
On a quiet shady river bank
Let the world go on without me
Wouldn't have it any other way
'Cause I ain't in no hurry today

Ain't in no hurry
I'd be a fool now to worry
About all those things I can't change
And the time that I borrow
Can wait till tomorrow
'Cause I ain't in no hurry today

When I must return
To the cold cold ground
Have 'em take their time
When they lay this sinner down

Heaven knows that I ain't perfect
I've raised a little Cain
And I plan to raise a whole lot more
Before I hear those angels sing
(Gonna get right with the lord)
But there'll be hell to pay
But I ain't in no hurry

Ain't in no hurry
Be a fool now to worry
About all those things I can't change
And the time that I borrow
Can wait 'til tomorrow
'Cause I ain't in no hurry
Ain't in no hurry
Ain't in no hurry today

As I finish Moana smiles.

"That was amazing!" She says. I smile and hand her my guitar. She sets it in her lap and we repeat our sclales. In reward I taught her a new chord. When we finish Moana smiles.

"Listen, I know that you might get in trouble but I would be glad if you came to my party." She says. I smile and she smiles back.

"I'll be there." I say. She smiles. "Well,I guess I should head back." She says. I nod and look up at the sky. Then I feel something soft and warm on my cheek. I look and Moana giggles. "Did you just...?" I start. But she stands up and rushes back to her house.

I feel my cheek and I smile. I give a yelp of joy and jump up. "Shut it!" I hear someone shout. I laugh and head home. I hop in bed with my spirits high. The next morning I see my father in his uniform. I look at him.

"What's going on here?" I ask. My mother is wearing a nice red dress.

"Your father served in the army. He and the Mayor served together. Ai I thought, why not wear his uniform to the party." My mother explains.

"Why do you hate the Mayor so much?" I ask. My father grunts and walks away.

"He and the Mayor were in battle. They fought with your uncle who was both their best friend." My mother says.

"I didn't know I had an uncle!" I say.

"You don't! Not anymore that is." I hear my father say. I look at him.

"He died on the battlefield. And he died all because Tui didn't watch his back!" My father says cooly.

"Why aren't you dressed?" My grandma asks.

"I'm not allowed to go." I say.

"What?!" My parents say in unison.

"The Mayor said so." I say. They look at each other.

"Don't worry! Some people won't be able to make it! So I'll play my guitar while you party!" I say with fake happiness. They sigh.

"Alright. But make sure to be home before we are." My mom says. I nod and walk out. I sit at my bench and people come out.

I play many songs and get many tips. Soon everyone leaves. I wait and people come out dressed up. I smile as they walk by. I sigh wishing that I could be at the party.
